Ever got an upgrade at check-in?

What are my chances of getting upgraded to a suite if I ask at the front desk? Has anyone ever tried it? Thanks in advance for replying.

I was upgraded from a standard view to a pool view.

I agree, the chances of getting upgraded to a suite are miniscule. You might be able to get into a suite at checkin for less than they are quoting at CRO, but for free, it's almost unheard of.

I think the only times I've heard of someone getting upgraded to a suite for free was when there was an issue with their reservation.

We once paid to upgrade to a 1BR suite, and they upgraded us to a 2BR suite for free. Now, that said, the second BR was a lock-off and was not usable for anything but being a second bedrom for that room. So they couldn't rent it, and cleaning it was the only loss they incurred with the upgrade. This was at the AKL, where we were repeat guests and celerating a birthday, which I think helped. But again, we paid for the upgrade to the 1BR suite, so the comp was the second BR.

You'll likely be able to get a comp upgrade to a better view, or perhaps a deluxe room if you ask nicely and there is availability. but I wouldn't hold my breath for any upgrades past that.

We've been upgraded from standard view at Wilderness Lodge to courtyard. We have also been upgraded at Yacht Club from standard view to a view of the rose/wedding gazebo.

Also, my sister got upgraded to a suite at Wilderness Lodge from a regular room. There was a problem with her reservation (I think they were overbooked) .

We were upgraded to a suite at the Contemporary when they didn't have a tower room available (which was what we'd reserved).

Other than that, my only upgrades have been from a standard view to a better view (we're hoping for some of that pixie dust when we check in at the AKL on Monday!).

That said, we were upgraded from a standard room to a Honeymoon Suite, but it was a one night stay. We were also upgraded to a junior suite from a standard at CSR, but that was because a manager at another resort "pulled some strings" because of a reservation problem. You definitely have a good chance of getting a better view, but it all depends on occupancy.

We were upgraded at the the Wilderness Lodge from a woods view, to a Courtyard view just last week

We were upgraded from a standard view room at AKL to a deluxe savannah view. Not sure why, but it was a larger room than the standard and of course we loved watching the animals!!
