I think that HH looks beautiful but we already have a nice beach to go to in the summer. I was thinking of going for 5 days in Dec. or Jan. - I know it would most likely be too chilly to swim but we were thinking about visitng Savannah for 1 day- and just winging it the rest of the time. Would it be too boring?

Although we've never been in December or January, we have been in November and February, and there were some days then that were colder than typical January weather there, we're told. We still had a good time-everything was open (I think there's only one golf course and one resturaunt that won't be open this January). There's a good selection of activities at the resort. Besides, I always say-"A bad day at Hilton Head is better than a good day at work." We love it there.

We went in December and had a fabulous time! It was really cold (unseasonably) but it was still wonderful and the island is very beautiful. The best part is that there are no waits at restaurants and the beaches are deserted.

The pools at HHI are heated so there is no reason not to swim. The points are cheap and we would definitely do it again.

Just understand it may be 70 or it may be 50 but a wonderful trip for sure!

The golf courses are packed this time of year, and the green's fees are the highest they get all year as a result. For golfers, you can't beat the weather, but the crowds can get frustrating (I hate playing right on top of someone, or vice versa).

Thanks for the input- DH probably won't golf on our trip and I don't golf, so I am not worried about that. Maybe if we go I will just pack some nice warm robes so we can bundle up when we get out of the pool.

Actually, on some courses, the rates are lower in January and February, and they go up at the beginning of March. We went in March, then when we found this out, we changed to February to get lower golf rates. When we went for Thanksgiving this year, DH picked up a golf book, and it's still that way.

I am in Savannah, What do you want to know? :goodvibes

We stayed on HH a few years ago when the high temps were in the 40s and there were people swimming in the heated pool. We'll be staying there again this January, and so far, the weather for the area has been normal, so, I would expect cool weather.

Savannah will be fairly quiet in January. Give me a time frame and I can tell you more.

We have friends in Savannah that we would visit. Also we love to walk and look at unique architechture- Savannah looks like a good place for that. I have always wanted to see Savannah. I am glad to hear they keep the pools warm in cold weather.
I am thinking either going between Christmas and New Years- or possibly in the early Spring. Are there any good events in Savannah that would be worth thinking about before we pick our dates? Are there any tours of the homes at Christmastime or anything like that?

If you got in early spring stay away from the week they do the PGA Heritage Golf Tournament. The island gets very crowded!

If considering HH in early spring and planning a day trip to Savannah - look out for St. Patty's Day! Unless you really like a good party and big crowds. We took an all-girls trip to HH and spent March 16th in Savannah. We saw all the preparations for ST. Patricks Day and the parade and we were glad that we went the day we went. Of course, if you like to party - that would be the perfect time!
