Ever get "burned" on a trade?

Not get your pin? What did you do? I think it may have happened to me. How long should I wait? Almost 4 weeks ago, I set up a mail trade with someone who said he was new and didn't have any references. Well, JudithM knows how that can be, she took a chance, so did I! So I sent him the pin, never got mine in return. A few days ago I E-mailed him-no reply! Now what? And can anyone else tell me stories of what happened to them? I don't want to feel like I'm the only one who's been burned. BTW, at least it wasn't too valuable-a lanyard pin.

I've never traded via email; usually only at the parks. On my last trip in May, I did a really "stupid" trade. In Oct. 1999 I purchased a Tigger pin from AK (I think it was one of the Millenium pins). I've never seen it offered again, even on eBay. I had it on my lanyard and was wandering through D-MGM. (The pin had either Disney's AK or just AK on top with a close-up of Tigger's face with a big smile.

I've never traded away a Tigger pin in all my years of collecting. My DW says I am mostly like Eeyore, but I wanna be Tigger. (She's probably right!)

Anyway, a couple stopped me, wanting to see my pins. The fellow had some interesting ones and we talked. Before I realized what I had done, I had traded my AK Tigger for a pewter Minnie Mouse. What was I thinking?!?!?

When my DW caught up with me, she asked what I had done. I told her and then almost lost it. Ever since we've been looking for a replacement AK Tigger pin. My consolation is that I hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I did.

Anyway, like Homer Simpson says: D'oh!

This recently happened to me. The person had references and I had traded with her once before, though not a very fast trade, I thought it was an isolated thing. So I didn't hestitate to trade again. Well that was March 29th, and no pin, and no answers to my many email messages. So I recently wrote to Joette, dizpins.com and she let me know that I was not alone, and was 1 of 10 people waiting for their pins. I was glad I wrote her, because I actually felt better that I was not alone in this deception. She did mention that there was going to be some legal postal action taken against this person. I know I'll never see the pin I traded for, but feel that I can move on now. There was nothing I could've done to prevent this. As I say, this person had lots of references, and I've even written to the last couple of ones to see if they had problems. I do feel by writing dizpins and letting them know, there's some hope that this person could be stopped from doing this to others (at least for awhile). I'm sorry this has to happen to anyone.

I got burned on a trade for the 100 Years of Magic Happy Meal toys. I sent mine but never received any in return. Last time I contacted the other party, he told me that he had sent the toys, but that he would send replacements since they must have gotten lost. That was back in April. In May I contacted him again and he told me that he hadn't sent the toys yet, but that he was going to soon. Here it is mid-June and still no toys. Fortunately, I was able to find the ones I needed on ebay, so I finally have all 100.

First to set the "record" straight ... Simba's Mom was new to trading via mail. She had a pin I was looking for. I was her first trade via mail with a "stranger." I no longer call many of my "friends" on this bb "strangers" anymore .

And yes, I did get burned recently . I went to a local pin meet two months ago. A trader had a Donald Duck pin that she repeatedly told me was from 1976. She & her son wanted my EPCOT CM atlas set. She wouldn't add any other pin to her trade. When I turned the pin over, the print was very small. I mentioned I thought it said Kodak 89 on the back. She assured me again the pin was from 1976.

I should have stuck to my gut feeling & said NO. When I got home, I found the pin on pinpics & indeed it was a Kodak promo pin not the all exclusive 1976 pin she told me. I emailed her & after awhile she said she got the atlas pins from her son & would send the set back to me. She asked for my mailing address not once, but twice. That was over a month ago. NO pins from her in my mailbox. I guess I wanted to make a child happy, but it backfired on me.

I have talked online more than once with the meet host, who happens to be friend's with the trader. I feel I get one excuse after another, but I have not seen the pins .

Simba's Mom, it is very disturbing because I have had SO MANY WONDERFUL trades with so many great folks from this bb & from DIZPINS. People who have see a pin on my wants list & just sent it "because" - I have done similar things both in person & in mail trades. I've traded with people over & over again to the point where it is more important to send the other person something they really like/want than to worry about LE or rack.

I could go on with stories of how many of you have made me, my husband or my friends HAPPY with a trade, but I'll stop here . THANK YOU!

Please don't stop doing things to make kids happy. I think I can speak for all parents of kids that really need something special in their lives...you, Robin, Peggie, Renee, and now EngrChas (who just sent on a Minnie nurse pin that Rachel will be giving to her home health nurse as a gift this week) have really changed the quality of of at least one special kid's life. And I don't say that lightly...just come visit us for bandage change day!

Anyway, it's too bad that there are some selfish people out there. But I really do believe that what goes around come around, and if you're a kind person then things will balance out for you.

Sharon, don't worry! The trade I mentioned above makes me want to think twice, but I will still trade with my wonderful trading friends!! I cannot begin to imagine what Rachel has been through. I can only hope that some of us have brought a smile to her face &/or brighten her day !!

I got burned once recently. I had sent out some TA via Pinpics trade requests. One person responded with OK and their address. They were from France and spoke little English so the 'OK' to me meant a go ahead. Since I was off to the post office that am, I pkg up that pin and sent it on it's way. The next day I get an email from them. It was basically not comprehendable. I have another Pin Pal from Belgium who translated for me and helped me compose a letter to them in French.
The orignal trader just kept replying with the word (in French) 'empty'. Neither my Belgium friend nor I could figure out what this means.
So I have not heard from this trader. The last email I sent said , in French, I sent you a pin, you owe me one. But no reply has been forth coming.
I have accepted the fact that I am out a pin, a nice one, but not an LE.
The only lesson I learned was I better learn to speak French. Or at least thoroughly confirm before I send out a pin! And no, I did not check Dizpins until just now.......They do have 6 references. I am going to email the names I know and see how things went with them.

But Dorothy, no you are not alone. For the most part all my trades have gone smoothly.....I have been trading via mail for 2 years now.

I just posted a vent about a trade that I got burned...

Of all things 12 months state pins... Traded 2 NY for Alabama and Arkansas orginal trade was May 26 No pins.... But the person had nerve to request 2 SC which I was getting... But since I didn't get the first trade I decided to wait... I e-mailed but no answer... Got an e-mail today and she wanted to know what happen to the 2 SC I told her I was waiting for the original trade... No response yet!!

In writing to my many pin pals I find out that she has burned at least 5 other people... Just wrote to Dizpin and see what would happen...

I also can't beleive why people would do this.... At time there are things that happen and you get delayed but a note explaining what happen is just a MUST...


I love trading I've meet so many people and I like the friendship more than the pins...

Well I was soo happy that I complete my set but now I'm out of 2 pins so I'm back on the boards..

This won't stop me from making great friends... It's ashame that people have to spoil a good thing.

Cathy, I am so sorry to read that you got burned trying to collect the state pins. You are a wonderful pin trading individual. I understand getting burned - it happened to me at a local meet in April. I only wish I had extras of the states you need.

Posting an update. After posting that I've been waiting 8 weeks for my pin, yesterday it arrived. I know that I was one of many people that were waiting for pins from this trader and Joette & Figgy are well aware of this person. Maybe she saw the post or maybe because legal action was being taken. Hopefully others will get their pins from this trader too! I guess it helped to vent. I have since wrote to Joette and told her my pin arrived and she attributes it to Disney Magic. Guess I was one of the lucky ones "this time."

I need to post an update too. I got an Email from the trader (no explanation why he didn't reply for 6 days-maybe he was away). He said he felt bad about taking so long and was sending me an extra pin. It's quite possible that he just plain forgot and then went on vacation. I'll give him another week, perhaps he's honest-just forgettful-we all can be that sometimes!
