okay, my cruise is months away & i am already having nightmares of forgetting my glasses, ear plugs (DH snoring) DS5 special "lovey"......

has anyone else forgot something "important" that they couldn't replace or purchase on board?

::yes::

That's what lists and "cruise boxes" are for. A cruise box is the box you put stuff that you only take on a cruise - like your lanyards or water shoes or stuff you don't use other times.

Just start your lists NOW and let your family think you're crazy like the rest of us. Then you check stuff off as you add it to the appropriate suitcase or carry on. Personally, I have an extra "critical" list of stuff that MUST go. Stuff on this list is on the regular list for whatever bag it goes in but is on my CRITICAL list also so I check for it twice.

If it's cheap to duplicate, just buy a spare and put it in the cruise box.

my little boy's security blankets! that was IRREPLACEABLE. don't forget anything that is like an addiction to your kids (i.e. pacifier, teddies, blankies)

On our first cruise (our honeymoon), I forgot a hairbrush! Ack!

(this was after Southwest had lost our luggage, and we got it back in Nassau, so a bummer of a start to the trip)

All the ship store had was a tiny travel, fold up type brush. :(

We didn't get our luggage on the Magic until St. Maarten. Good thing we packed the kids' sleeping necessities (blankets, animals) in our carry-on bags!

Guest Services provided us with some toiletries and the ship store had some things (even a mini curling iron), so we made it through o.k.

I recommend if it is something you just gotta have - to pack it in your carry-on.

My husband's dress shoes! He looked so cute in his suit with flip flops on!

I completely agree with CM Mom. WRITE IT DOWN. Start the list and write down every little detail you can think of, now. I divide my list up into several parts: Things I need, my DH needs, sons need etc. Then another part is things we need to do a few days before trip, like cancelling paper and mail. Then the things to do the day before, like confirming towncar and airport rides, flights. As everything is packed and done, a big check mark goes next to it. Every time you think of something you can't do without in your every day life, go to the list. It has worked for me for six trips now and I have never once forgotten anything. It really works great. :D

Our, cat and rabbit! LOL! These important family members weren't allowed to come with us and every day we missed them so. We did take pictures and even made magnets for our door with their pictures on them. Seriously I packed socks for everyone but myself! I sleep in socks, cold feet, fortunately my 9 year old son has huge feet and he had plenty. although i did see socks at one of the shops on board. i agree with the others-we had a cruise box and everything we didn't use daily went in the box. so come time to pack all you did was empty the box and check them off your lsit. there is a method to all the madness. good luck and enjoy!

I forgot what a klutz I am, so I didn't take stain stick. While eating Mickey chocolate covered ice cream in the Magic Kingdom before our cruise, I dribbled chocolate down the front of one of the tops I had planned to wear on the cruise. Couldn't find stain stick at the Poly. I even tried using shampoo, but it didn't work. So . . . we had stopped on the way to the port and bought some. In my excitement I "lost" it and didn't have it on our cruise. When we got home and unpacked, I found it in an outside pocket of my biggest piece of luggage. I'll definitely take a small stain stick (or similar thing) in the future. The chocolate didn't come out until we got home, but that didn't diminish our fun one bit!

DW ALMOST forgot her glasses. We got into the airport here and she went to take her sunglasses off, and her regular glasses were not in her purse. She took the parking shuttle back to the car, and the glasses, in their case had fallen out of her purse in the car.

We BOTH can't see a thing without our glasses, and needless to say we have had many "discussions" over 22 years of marriage over her insisting on buying prescription sunglasses, and on throwing out her old glasses when she gets new ones.
I use clipons, and ALWAYS pack my old pair of glasses when I travel.
I lose a pair of clips every year or so, so I'm out $5.99
My wife ends up spending $600 a year on 2 pairs of glasses instead of $300 for one pair and $5.99 for clipsons.

In september I put an open suitcase in the corner of the upstairs foyer (we have a big landing on the second floor) As we bought things for the cruise we just tossed them in on our way by. By the time I went to pack, it had snorkle gear, bathing suits, light sticks (for parades at wdw) sunblock and other not every day items. I also broke down and bought a clear shoe bag--- since everyone here swears by them. I figured it would be the one thing I would regret not taking, and probably couldn't buy on board.

I also kept a notepad with my passporter, and made a list as I read of the things I wanted to remember or to consider packing.

We leave in a little more than 24 hours!

This wasn't a Cruise, but a few years ago we went to Disney World for our 5th anniversary with my parents. We drove down from Pennsylvania, (which we did in a straight shot). We checked in at the Wilderness Lodge, went to the room and started unpacking. My wife asked me if I had seen the cosmetic bag! I told her the last time I saw it was on the bathroom counter at home. We looked around for it, and I told her we must have forgotten it, no big deal we can just go to the store and pick up the things we need. She than explained to me that her birth control pills were in the bag. Panic insued. We went to a few pharmacies, they would not give her any, we went to 2 clinic's, they also would not give her any without permission from her doctor, which being a saturday and not having his # was not going to happen. We went back to the WL still not knowing to do, (we had planned on bringing back a few suvenires, but not that kind). We took a chance and went up to the Guest Service desk at WL, and explained the situation. The woman said that is not something that is uncommon, she said, enjoy your day in the park and when you stop back for dinner there will be a package at the desk for you, which is exactly what happened. Never underestimate the ability the Disney CM's have at helping in any situation.
P.S. Sorry for the misspelled words, my spelling is horrible.

wow, disney went the extra mile, Did you enqire on how they obtained them? Maybe next vacation ill explain to them i lost a couple million and my Porshe and see what happens ::smooth:

We went at christmas and had bought some small gifts for fellow DISers and the service staff. We didn't want to wrap the items because of customs (we're from the UK) we remembered wrapping paper but forgot the sellotape, none on the ship but we got lucky at a small shop on Grand Cayman.

Yeah forgot my DW.
Don't ever do that. 5 years later and she still whines about it
Think she'd be over it by now ;)

Cheers,
Grumbo

On one cruise HE FORGOT HIS PANTS!!! (They were still hanging in his closet waiting to be packed at the last minute so they didn't get as wrinkled).
