Not talking cold sandwiches or cereal. I mean cook as in crock pot and/or using the iron to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

In a normal hotel room (no kitchenette) just beds, tv and bathroom, how much cooking do you do that involves plugging in a major appliance?

I'm just curious because I was told recently that I should start checking the hotel irons for food residue because people use them to make food.

totally admit that this never crossed my mind and was wondering how many people do this.

No I don't and I find it disgusting that people do!

We're DVC members and I don't even cook in those rooms. :lmao: Maybe if you're lucky I will toast you up a bagel otherwise the cook is on vacation....

If somebody needs to make a quesadilla with a hotel iron because they cannot afford to pay for a meal from a restaurant or even a fast food joint then they cannot afford to be in a hotel to begin with.

OMG! There used to be some fantastic threads around the Dis of people doing this at Disney. They took toasters, microwaves, crockpots, etc., and cooked up all sorts of things. I know of one guy who lives near me, who took a cooler full of food and a little grill. He cooked on his truck's tailgate at one of the Values for their meals.

No. If I'm in a hotel room, I'm probably on vacation. If I wanted to cook, I'd stay at home.

One of the most disgusting thing I've read on the DIS was about women using coffee pots (the glass container for the hot water) as a laundry receptacle for hosiery. A number of people stated it was the perfect way to wash out their hose. I have never looked at those coffee pots the same since then.

Gross, gross, gross.

ETA- No. I haven't cooked in my hotel room. I haven't used any room appliance for cooking. And I wouldn't.

If you need to cook with an iron, you can't afford a vacation, no exceptions, seriously. If you want to cook with an iron to save money, you probably have issues too .

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this! Not having a good way to wash out my hose has kept me from many a hotel stay. Washing out my hose is my daily top priority, so again, thank you.

No. Furthest I got to "cooking" was buying (what the heck are they called? The quick water boiling thingee's?? Hot Pots? I have no idea....) to boil water for my french press coffee.

Here...one of these things:

That was just unnecessary.

There are people that wear hose for fine dining and such.

That's cute! I'd rather use something like that anyway. Thanks for posting it. I'll have to look into one.

Those people are apparently trapped in 1997 and need a time machine with their coffee pots. It's very sad. Won't you donate? For six dollars a day, you, too, could save people from HORRIFIC FASHION ERRORS.

This is how I feel too. I'm all for saving a buck so you spend the $$ on other things while you're on vacation, but that's just taking it to another weird level.

I can't even imagine using a hotel room iron to make food - ew ew ew!!!!

The point wasn't fashion blunders, it was what people do with those coffee pots.

I'm sitting here comfortably smug in the knowledge that I drink tea. Thank goodness.

LOL--my friend was going to a wedding this weekend and her 82 year old mother in law said "OMG you cant wear panty hose to a wedding- that is SO out of style" LOL--she said things are bad when her MIL is giving her fashion updates!
