Ever considered renting a storage locker for your WDW stuff?

We always lug our WDW supplies (Disney tshirts, sandals, water shorts for Kali River and Splash, cooking utensils for our DVC kitchen, Brita water bottles, etc. All of those things we keep in a big box at home) back and forth from Seattle to WDW. We usually go about twice a year. My husband saw the self storage facility off the freeway the last time we were driving to WDW from the airport and decided he wanted to rent space there. I think he's nuts but he'd like your thoughts.

Tell him that you'll personally lug the stuff around for the trips. In exchange, he can give you the money he'd pay for the storage locker.
I'm sure the smallest spaces there probably still go for around $50 a month. It's just not worth it to me. Plus you have the added time of having to go to the locker to pick stuff up and drop it off. And most of those places don't have 24 hour access. So, what happens if your flight from Seattle gets delayed and you can't go to your locker?

I know the lockers are expensive - but every time we rent bikes I think..there's got to be a way....

Knowing lockers were probably NOT an option I remember thinking it would be cheaper to buy a bike at Walmart every year than to rent them!!!! (My kids would rent a bike every day if I let them.)

I guess we don't lug that much extra stuff along with us. We get by with the utensils already in the kitchen and have occationally purchased a disposable baking pan. The salt and pepper, sugar, and laundry detergent don't take up much space, and we usually pack very light for clothes since we can wash daily if we choose to.

I can see where bike rental might get a bit pricey. If you purchased bikes at Walmart, why not then donate them to charity in Orlando rather than spend the money on storing them.

Diane - exactly what I was thinking! My mind was just flitting around like this - - bikes cost $$ to rent... buy bikes and store them??- nah - storage too expensive - crazy idea.... buy bikes every year?? - - what do we do with them when we leave? amvets? that's about as far as i got before DH said the whole idea was nutty.

One day I just may do it!

GO TRIBE!

I've considered renting storage space for my trips, especially since I normally travel in Oct., Dec., then again in Jan/Feb. I certainly don't need summer clothes at home then, so it would be great to just lock them away until I return. Also, I have many things I consider to be my "DVC items"--placemats and/or tablecloth, salt/pepper, coffee filters, etc. (Well, after all, it is my home!) ;) I use these exclusively for my DVC stays, so it would be great not to have to haul them back and forth from Oct to Feb. There is nothing in my suitcase that I would need while back at home, as everything is either for DVC or is a duplicate of my daily necessities (toiletries, etc.)

It would! And we stood at Walmart last year, humming and hawing over whether or not to buy the bikes for the kids...and my dad!! LOL!

Maybe we should have a "DVC Owners" storage locker...we all pitch in a few bucks, and get a locker...we could store the DVC Christmas trees in it too:)

Now, there's an idea!!

I've stashed a suitcase and some Halloween decorations at a friends' house. The problem is, though, I need to get to their house in Poinciana before I go to the hotel. It would be great to have somewhere on the grounds where we could store suitcases, decorations, etc.

What you need is someone like my dad who has retired down there with some space. (Not MY Dad, he doesn't want to work LOL!) They could store stuff for you for a small fee and just drop it off with Bell Services at your hotel on arrival day. Give them a little extra money!

I am going to keep this in mind for when I retire, but that is 20 years away! LOL!

I gladly offer to wait in the locker and take the spot of all your BIL's and SIL's and assorted difficult family members who don't show up at the last minute and its too late to get a refund :wave2:

When they do show up, would you also be available to take them around the parks, so I can have a vacation?? :teeth:

How about a DVC Bike Exchange, then? ;)

I can see front desk CM's now...here come the naughty DVCers with the bikes, trees and other assorted paraphanalia!!!

No, no, I simply replace the difficult family member. I get to make a mess of the room, demand more towels, leave the fridge open and the seat up, miss the clearly arranged PS times, forget to save you seats for the parade and Fantasmic, not offer to help with your stroller, diaper and shopping bags...But heh, I'm family right?

1) I think a commercial storage locker would be far too expensive.
2) It is cheaper to move it each time.
3) Of course . . .
4) I do have some extra room in our storage shed.
5) Our new place is about 15-minutes from Disney.
6) Let's see, what would be reasonable ? ? ?
. . . $63.40 per month for partial shed space
. . . plus personal, city, county, federal, estate, and excise taxes
. . . plus gratuity
. . . plus breakfast at the Waffle House on pick-up day
. . . plus dinner at Citricos on drop-off day
. . . plus an exorbitant delivery charge to your room

This kind of sounds like the WeGoShop people - except in this case, they would just store, deliver and hopefully pick up again. Wonder if they'd be interested in adding this extra service - but of course, just until you retire, CarolA, LOL!

Best wishes-
