Ever "bribed" someone to go on a ride?

Does bribing count as a theme park strategy? When DS was 5, the rest of the family wanted to go in the Haunted Mansion but nothin' doin', no way was he going. DH offered $1 as a last resort. The little Scrooge McDuck-in-training replied, "I'll do it for $5." Of course he loved it.

Sort of ~ My DM bribed me to go on TOT and I bribed her to go on Space Mountain.

We had to give sister $10 to go on a elevator.

I bribe my DD to try to new rides, by telling her that when she rides the ride, I will buy her a new pin representing the ride for her lanyard. She always knows that once she tries the ride, if she doesn't like it, she never has to go back.

The rides she discovered she loved because of this are:
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain
Test Track

The rides she discovered she didn't like are:
Tower of Terror
Space Mountain

I like how we do this, because she is scared to try new rides, and if we didn't do this, she would never know that she would love the rides she loves now.

When DS was 4 almost 5 on our last trip we did it twice. It took a Buzz Lightyear Communicator toy to get on Splash Mt and a Test Track play set to get him on TT. He loved both and can't wait to go back on them this fall.

Yes, We had to bride our 6 1/2 yr old son at MGM to go see the shows his 3 little sisters wanted to see, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Play House Disney.

YES!!! When my ds was 7, I bribed him to go on ALL the thrill rides with me by promising him the pressed pennies at the end of each of those rides (as well as a few other pennies)
He is soooooooo happy he went on the rides (as well as the pressed pennies collection) & when we went back in January when he was 9, no bribery was necessary- he begged to go back on all those rides (and did)

On our first trip as parents (with a 1 and 2 year old) our 2 year old wouldn't go on anything except small world. She would not even go to shows that were indoors (like Little Mermaid) I am not sure what scared her so badly. We couldn't negotiate with her much during that trip, but over time we bribed her to go on rides (not just at Disney) baby-step style to get her over her fear. Now she is 11 and a daredevil- loves Space Mountain, anticipating riding TOT for the first time in October.

When my son was 5, we knew he would love TOT, but the sight of the ride made him cry because it looked so scary from the outside. So, we bribed him with $20 and a new TOT t-shirt if he would ride. He ended up loving the ride, and has ridden it many times since over the years. On another note, my younger son had the same TOT fears, and when offered the same bribe, said "NO" to the money and shirt, and has not stepped foot on TOT, even though he loves EE, SM, and RNRC. Each kid is different.

We used to bribe DD with Mickey Bars when she was 6 to go on the RRRC, SplashM and SpaceM . We then figured out that she was a speed junky and didn't have to bribe her on the next trip.

When I was nine, I was at Disneyland with my father and his girlfriend. They wanted to go on Space Mountain, but I was afraid to try it. His girlfriend concoted a clever story and told me that she had just seen a group of elderly nuns disembark from Space Mountain and that if they could do it, I could do it too. I did go on Space Mountain (kept my eyes shut the entire time!) and to this day I continue to look for thrill seeking nuns when I am at Disney.

We offered my son (15 at the time) $20 to go on the Hulk. He refused and we upped it to $50 - still no go, so we forgot about it. A year later he decided to try it and loved it. He kicked himself, though, for not doing it when he could have made $50.

Last year in DL our youngest wanted to ride Space Mt, but out oldest didnt. We told him we would take him to a Red Sox game if he rode. He rode and loved it and the one who wanted to go on, didnt like it.

Little did they both know we had tickets to an Angels/Red Sox game to go to while we were out there.

Yes, I have bribed my niece to go on rides. Nothing that I know she would be truly frightened of, I'm not mean. She is a pretty tough (in a good way) 11yr old, but her older brother frightens the tar out of her, telling her how scary some rides are. Brothers are so nice sometimes! My main problem is now she wants big bucks for a bribe and I am so not giving her $20 to ride a ride I know she would like!

My dad would always bribe me and my sister to go on POTC. We were scared of the big drop. My dad let us pick something out at the gift shop. It worked!

I will probably try this on our trip because DD can be a pain! She is a bit stubborn and it might not work. But some rides we can ride as a family and she might try to rain on our parade. We took her to a waterpark last week and she was scared of all the tunnel slides and that was riding all together too, LOL.
