Ever "bribed" someone to go on a ride?

I once told my ex that I'd happily have a hot dog for dinner (he won't eat any "different" foods) if he'd go on PotC one more time.

Actually, that was a win-win for me anyway...I love the dogs at Casey's Corner!

I am in the process of bribbing my sis to go on SM with me. She'll do any roller coaster, but she's not into big drops. She won't take $ The only way she said she'll ride it is if I ride MS with her at Epcot. I just can't can't do it though, I don't like the lack of space in the ride. The whole idea of going on it makes me nervous.

I bribe my DD to try to new rides, by telling her that when she rides the ride, I will buy her a new pin representing the ride for her lanyard. She always knows that once she tries the ride, if she doesn't like it, she never has to go back.

We used to do the same thing. We told him it was "proof" that he had done the big rides. He's 10 now and the only ride he doesn't like is RNR coaster (hates the take off.) All of his ride pins are mounted in a shadow box and hanging on his bedroom wall. In a few weeks, we'll be adding an EE pin!

Similarly, we do the same thing with resorts. In order to keep him looking forward to trying new places (he's a creature of habit) we buy a pin from each stay at a new resort.

Does bribing count as a theme park strategy? When DS was 5, the rest of the family wanted to go in the Haunted Mansion but nothin' doin', no way was he going. DH offered $1 as a last resort. The little Scrooge McDuck-in-training replied, "I'll do it for $5." Of course he loved it.

I don't need to bibe my 6 year old son, he'l go on anything.. But I still need to find a way to bribe my wife to go on ToT or R'n'R coaster... any ideas (and money or gifts will not work)

I like the idea about using the pins for the ride as a bribe. May have to do that on our Sept trip.

We have yet to have to bribe dd at WDW yet, however she will be 40" tall this time and will be able to go on SM and BTMRR and those will probably take some bribery (although we're thinking of telling her BTMRR is just a train ride).

We have bribed her a couple times at Six Flags. She is a speed junky, but still didn't want to go on the Whizzer which is a pretty mild rollercoaster. Well she went on the first time in the very front with dh and ended up riding it four times that day. She evens ride through the whole ride with her hands in the air now.

We know what her ride threshold is so would never force her onto something we know she wouldn't like, but have no problem resorting to bribery for rides we know she would love.

A friend took her kids to WDW this year. SHe has little girls who love the princesses. She had to pay her DS $5 to have a picture taken with one. As they were standing in line for another princess the CM asked him if he was getting his picture taken. He told her his mom would go broke if he had his picture taken with the rest of the princesses.

Does this count? My SO chickened out on a ride we were in line for, and as he started to leave I told him he wasn't "getting any" for two weeks if he didn't come on the ride.

When my brother was 5 i told him Space Mountain was like Its a small world, but about space. He agreed to ride. When we started going up the lift hill, he yelled out, is this a roller coaster!? (he was up front too) I said, Yes! Hold on! And he screamed as we plummeted into space.

He was angry when he got off, but desperatly wanted to ride it again.

Now, he's 13 and he is a daredevil coaster rider. And he thanks me for getting him on that ride. As it started it all.

DH bribed me to go on Splash Mountain with him. I got a tshirt I wanted out of it... but just as I predicted, I hated the ride. Oh well, he was grateful I went on with him.

We bribed my at that time 6 year old nephew to ride test track. His sister (then 10) and I the aunt told him it was Small World. He relied "this doesn't look like small world".
It is still a joke in our family to this day. Whenever someone doesn't want to ride something we say it is small world and the other person will undoubtedly reply this doesn't look like small world.

We have bribed my daughter every trip for the past three years to ride TOT.(It's the only ride she doesn't like, but it's my favorite.) Every year she has been miserable riding it, but she does it anyway for the reward at the end. I'm hoping one of these years she will finally decide she likes it!

Actually, I'm impressed with her bravery. My parents used to promise me the world to get me to do things I didn't want to do, but no bribe was good enough. In fact, when I was five, we were at DL waiting to get on Haunted Mansion. I was screaming and crying because I was scared, and after I refused every bribe he offered, my dad finally said, "Do you want to go home right now?", thinking it was a threat. I screamed, "YES!!!!". Even that didn't work the way he had hoped! So, I'm always impressed with DD for doing things that scare her just to get the reward.

I bribed my 12 year old niece to go onto Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. It cost me pictures from Splash and I think a t-shirt and a couple of sweatshirts. I was going to buy some of it anyways, but not as much.

DS(8) will not go on TOT. He loves Space Mountain and RnR but won't step foot on TOT. I told him if he rides it, I will buy him anything from the Star Wars store. He loves Star Wars.

If he rides EE, he can get the Cars, PS2 game.

If I knew he was truely horrified I wouldn't do it, but I know he'll love them if he would just try them. Last trip he got a toy for going on Space Mountain, then we couldn't get him off of it.

This isn't exactly a $$ bride- but it accomplished the same thing, lol. My sister is 12 yrs younger than me and when she was 2 1/2 she was scarred for life when she rode the Snow White ride, after that, she was never the same. Even when she was 10 she was very reluctant to go on rides that seemed frightening. She loved roller coasters but was scared of Space Mountain since she knew it was dark- but we knew that she would love it. This was a few years before fast pass, when both sides of the ride were used- we told her we'd take the "less scarey side" and she agreed to go on. She had a blast and was curious how much scarier the other side was and started laughing when we told her it was the same ride. To this day (she's 17) we still joke about going on the less scary side rides.

I'm determined to get her on Snow White this year- I may have to resort to $$, lol

were it not for this time-tested method of parenting, we would be very limited in our selection of do-able attractions. pins are the bribing medium of choice for our six year-old son.

My parents are currently trying to bribe me to go on Dinosaur. Im not sure how much it'll take to get me on it!

You shouldn't need a bribe for Dinosaur. It's great. Not scary or intense at all. (Okay, it might be a little scary for a four-year-old, but your command of the written word tells me you're older than that! )

My vacation buddy was afraid to go on Dinosaur because she thought she'd reinjure her back, but she got off at the end and said it was no problem at all.
