We sell on ebay, mostly antiques, Japanese anime items, Star Trek collectibles and any other stuff we've gotten a hold of.

I also buy and sell postcards.

Oddly enough I make pretty good money at it.

Well I am trying to thin down the thousand of cards I have right now by putting up very large lots of them.

I watch lots of different auctions and occasionally get some very good deals because people have lousy auctions with bad pictures and no one bids on them. (I usually write to the people and ask for more pix so I know what Im bidding on).

So I found this auction for 7500 cards with a buy it now for $1500. (more than I would spend on a lot). I decided to bid on it since it had a reserve I figured I would bid low enough not to meet it. I bid about half of what they were asking for the but it now and lo and behold I hit the reserve.

Now I am the high bidder on 7500 cards and if I win Jeff is going to shoot me! He likes that I always more than double my money on the cards, but they take up so much room while Im sorting through them.

I do not want to retract my bid (that never looks good and it registers under your user name how many bids youve retracted).

Please send some thoughts that someone comes along and outbids me!! It ends tomorrow so theres still hope.

I hate it when I do something stupid!

Yes, I have done it before, and was thankfully outbid. I hope someone outbids you, as well.

I think that if you are going to double your money on the cards then you should be ok.

I personally never have bid on something I really really didn't want, but don't do ebay as a business so...

I do sell some unusual stuff on Ebay.. like this

Don't laugh too hard, k?

Sorry Jeff.....I'm laughing pretty hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the OP, I have bid on something that then I have regret...usually I am outbid, so hopefully the same will happen for you!

ach! Jeff - do you actually get bidders on something like that?

Melora - I haven't bid on something on Ebay that I've regretted, but DH & I bid on & won a dining room table at an auction. We hate that thing! It's sooo heavy - it takes 4 strong men to move it & it just doesn't "go" with any other furniture that we own!

I hope you get outbid (but if you don't - you know you'll make your $$ back).

I havent really bid on something I regretted but I did get into a bidding war with another person and paid more for the item I won than I wanted to but it was only $30 I spent.

Jeff you need more feedback your at number 666--that cant be good :p

Sadly, I've got no bids on them. It was late at night and I was feeling a little goofy. It was more of a joke than anything.... :D

Nope, I always "watch" the item for a day or two and see how the bidding goes before I decide to bid. And I always set a limit, before I bid, and won't go above it. I'm a very disciplined ebay bidder. :teeth:

Jeff,
What a great idea. :p I hope you gets lots of bids.
Sometimes I like to surf around eBay just to see what kind of funny things they have.

I once bid on a serving dish to go with my china and did not realize until after I bid that the small print said it had two flaws. I was so annoyed with myself for not noticing this and was convinced I would get stuck with it.

I had purchased most of my china on Ebay, piece by piece. It had been a long haul because there was one of those sneaky bidders also buying thhe same pattern. You know the ones, they don't bid on an item until there is less than 20 seconds left and they often walk away with the item that way.

Sure enough, she outbid me at the last moment on the flawed serving piece. She must have missed the small print also. I was so happy not to be stuck with it, and it was even sweeter that my competition did.

PS If any of you are one of those bidders I call "sneaky", I apologize. My husband keeps telling me it is a perfectly okay way for people to bid, but it annoys the heck out of me each time I see it happen.

I see something I like and bid before checking the shipping and payment options. If the shipping is unreasonable, or they don't accept any of the easy pymt options (Paypal, check) I feel bad about bidding, but usually someone outbids me. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, I pay more for something than I should. I also buy things I don't need, and sometimes don't like once I've received them. Wish I could find the time/energy to sell some of my stuff on ebay. The pictures and post office time is a killer.

faithinkarma--its called sniping and I have done it and it has been done to me. Acutally most of the auctions I have bid one are like that. Seems like when people bid early it drives the price up more.
Did you ever get your serving dish?

I see...so there is actually a name for this practice. Guess I better suck it in and get used to it then LOL

Yes, I did eventually get the piece I was looking for. That is the great thing about Ebay, if you miss out on something, there will always be another.
