Ever been "upgraded"?

I was going to say no but then I remembered on my solo trip at the end of November 2010 I was booked in a BWI standard room but got a pool view room.

It was a view of the quiet pool at BWI.
If the weather was warm it would have been nice but since it was cold, it didn't matter how close I was to a pool, I wasn't going to use it. :rotfl:
And I was solo and put on the ground floor, I never opened the curtains to enjoy the view.

December 2010 we were booked to go to Pop for two weeks. There was a problem and Disney got their wires crossed and had given away both rooms for the first night of our stay (they had availability for the other 13, just not the first) and they upgraded both rooms to the Grand Floridian for two whole weeks!!!

WOW!!!!! We have two rooms reserved at POFQ in October. Now I love POFQ, but would be beyond thrilled for that kind of upgrade!!!!

On our trip this February we arrived to check in at ASM and they told us we had been upgraded to POR instead. Obviously a very nice surprise!!

We've been covered in pixie dust when it comes to upgrades at the WL

:tinker:

2003 from std to CL
2005 from std to courtyard pool view
2006 from std to woods view
2007 from std to courtyard pool view

In 2009 & 2011 WL stays we booked std and didn't receive an upgrade. In 2010 at AKL we booked pool view and again no upgrade, which was okay because we have never expected an upgrade; we always book the level we want but have been grateful when we did receive the unexpected upgrades.

We've probably received our life time of pixie dust for this now anyway. :)

I had reserved POR for my parents, myself and my two youngest children for a 10 night stay last December. We happned to arrive on the day that the Pop Warner folks were arriving too, and POR was one of the moderate resorts that they were staying in. There were cheerleaders everywhere.

When we arrived to check in, the cast member walked away for a bit and was talking to some people at the end of the counter. He came back and asked me if I had reserved two rooms. I told him no and he left again. When he came back he said this "I'm sorry, we do not have a room available to accommodate a group of 5 for 10 nights, would you mind a complimentary upgrade to The GRAND FLORIDIAN?" Seriously, I stood there and cried. Disney even paid for the cab to transport us over.

To make check-in night perfect, after we checked in at GF, as we were walking to our room Wishes started...again, I stood there and cried. I could not believe that I was there for the whole stay and it was so magical....just perfect!

I would have screamed, jumped and down and then cried. :)

We were thrilled, but had been travelling for three days (due to bad weather) and had our cases had been left at our home airport.

It was really magical for my niece's first trip (4 months old) and we calculated that the upgrade was worth $17,000!!

I had never heard of such an upgrade before, so you really never know...

So funny seeing someone else got a GF upgrade at the same time as we did too. On the cab on the way over my brother said that they must be joking and taking us back to the airport! It was all rather surreal.

Did they give you two rooms at the GF or a roll away bed? We are a family of five checking into POR on the 1st day of Pop Warner week also. I am praying for an upgrade because I hate cheerleaders - sorry, but they make noise and we like quiet! What time did you check-in? Just wondering. I would take ANY hotel as long as we still had room for 5!

We had a room with 2 queen size bed and a pullout couch. It worked out perfectly and was simply amazing!!

You are very lucky.

I accidently went that week one year to accommodate some friends, who couldn't leave Thanksgiving weekend.

I was told I had been moved to CSR from POR on Pop Warner week. I was very upset, since I had booked my room a year ahead of time and stayed there every year.

I insisted they upgrade me to deluxe for my troubles and they told me (in no uncertain terms) it was CSR or turn around and go home.

I insisted they give me what I paid for and I was staying put.

They gave away my waterview room by the pool at Oak Manor (that I get every year) to a Pop Warner family, and stuck me in the farthest room in Acadian House facing the parking lot. They were nice enough to credit me the money I paid for the waterview room.

Luckily, the only good part about it was that our room was far away from the shenanigans, but once you ventured out beyond that, it was total chaos. Worst week of my life. I have told all of my friends, it is the week after Thanksgiving or you aren't going with me.

Love, love, love these stories. I would have loved to have seen the expressions on your faces!

Okay, now I am REALLY nervous. As a family of five what are the options of where they could move us? I am such a planner that not knowing where we might stay messes with my head but now I really want to be moved and not stay at POR AB. But that was all we could afford for a family of five - the only other options I saw were $$$$$more. UG! We really like quiet at night and hate chaos. I do not think Pop Warner week will effect our touring in the parks but it does effect our hotel! HELP!

We received some amazing pixie dust on our last trip. We were staying GF for the first time. My son and I were excited to checkin and had gone on while DH was with the car, and the CM paused for a moment and said those magical words "Tinkerbell has been tinkering with your reservation. I need to get another CM to assist you with your check-in." DS and I were guardedly excited, as we weren't sure if it meant that our early-morning check-in was going to be accommodated or what. About that time, DH comes walking up with a CM with a clipboard, and she tells me that they had been waiting for us to pull up and didn't catch us before I bolted (well, that wasn't her word) into the hotel, as she wanted to inform us that we had been upgraded to CONCIERGE!!! I was so happy and excited that I hugged her profusely (a couple of times, actually), and she took us to a table and chairs in the lobby and explained that we would be in the Sugar Loaf building, and what all being upgraded to concierge meant, and what was included in our dining plan and so forth. I was on the verge of tears and kept thanking her, and she said that my reaction was by far the best reaction she had received all week (That would be a dream job--to get to make people's days every day, wouldn't it? ) I did shed some tears as I thanked God for this wonderful blessing!! (Brings back such great memories of a truly wonderful trip! We had also been upgraded to the club level at the Universal Portofino we had just come from. Wow! What a trip and a testament to God's undeserved blessings!)

We have only been upgraded ONCE since we bought our DVC . At our home resort SSR they upgraded us on our first points stay .

We had been upgraded several times even to the same room at WL . Concierge no less:cloud9:
Upgraded at The Swalphon from a regular room to Concierge when my DH was asked for his badge to get the 99 rate . The girl thanked him for his service and upgraded us right there . So nice of them to even offer a Fire Dept discount so the upgrade was just icing on the cake

I miss those days of upgrades but the DVC was a welcome gift form my DH :lovestruc

You can put your fears to rest; they have been moved over to CBR this year, due to the refurbs at POR.

We had standard view room at AKL and were moved to partial view rooms, which have great savannah views - we were greeted by a giraffe and zebra on arrival! I don't know if partial view is even sold as such but we sure felt we were upgraded from our parking lot view! Great stories!

Just back from a stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Booked a standard room and got a couryard view upgrade! Granted it was on the right wing which is closer to the villas and their quiet pool but we preferred that to the courtyard view of the main pool as was quieter. I was just happy to be staying at the WL, so anything extra was gravy!

Our stay prior was at POFQ and again paid for a standard view and got a river view, so were upgrade there as well.

I think it's great that Disney can give this kind of magic to people - I always hope for some pixie dust myself. We are booked at WL for July 2012 and had a standard view room, but I called today to switch to Courtyard room as DH did not want to take a chance in overlooking the service areas. But, the standard courtyard rooms were sold out, so they offered me the courtyard bunk bed room for the same price (bunk bed rooms have another surcharge)! I think the kids will love the bunk beds, so that's cool because I wasn't really willing to pay for it. :lovestruc Now...it would be nice if we got there and were upgraded to CL...a girl can dream right? :wizard:
