Ever been charged twice for redbox?

I keep asking my bf to stop going to redbox because it always ends up costing us way more that $1, but this time seems to have taken the cake. I was checking our accounts last night, and both accounts have redbox charges. Two different debit cards, charged the same day for a movie he returned yesterday.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

He's supposed to be calling today, and I'm really curious to see what the reasoning is. These are two completely different bank accounts, one is Chase and the other is our local credit union ... I'm assuming he's used both cards at one point in the past, so they had the other one on file, I'm just confused as to why both were charged.

No, hasn't happened to us. I have three CCs that have been used to rent at various times. I'm sure they'll make it right, but it seems really strange that that could happen. Good think you noticed. Do you get email receipts for your rentals?

Yeah, just one receipt from yesterday, for the amount that both accounts were charged.

Definitly call them! My two dd's both use Redbox a lot and any time they have a problem they call & usually get a code for a free movie.

Are you sure he didn't reserve it with one card and then pick it up with the other card?

If you reserve a movie you are charged whether you pick it up or not.

And they give you until 9pm the next day to pick it up but they will charge you 2 days if you wait to pick it up until the next day.Made that mistake once.

I was thinking the same thing. Reserved it online, but picked it up without going through the reserve.

I did it once. I reserved it at Walgreen's...told my husband to pick it up, but he went to a different walgreens. (we have 2 very close by) I called them immediately and told them what happened. They said "too bad!" So I was out a $1!

Nope, it was two charges for over $5 (because he'll get a movie and come home and sleep and we never, ever have time to watch movies) I'm hoping he calls on his lunch break, I wish I could call, ugh

Why can't you call? I've called when DBF has rented movies from Redbox and vice versa. Once we called because the machine was broken, it took our movie but didn't process the return, they said a tech would be out the next day to fix it and if the movie was indeed in the machine we would only be charged 1 day, it was so we were only charged 1 day. Another time the return didn't process again and we didn't realize it until they charged us for the movie, called and they immediately fixed it and credited our account.
We rent from Redbox a lot and rarely ever have any problems at all, even returning a day late it is still the cheapest easiest way to rent a movie locally.

Yes, we have been double billed on more than one occasion. DH called on one occasion & thought it was resolved but it did not get corrected. I did not make a big issue out of it since it was such a small amount. Now I know to watch those charges more carefully.

Something is not right here. How did they charge a card you did not use? Do you have any email receipts?

I no longer use Red Box, I've been double billed several times, and can't seem to get it corrected. The last time, they said we didn't return a movie (which we did) and I got to purchase a movie that I don't even have. I did end up going through the credit card company for that charge and getting it reversed. Since their customer service would do nothing, I'm done with them.

Did you get the "Return Successful" message? :goodvibes I ALWAYS wait for that message. There have been 2 occasions where I went up to a RedBox to check out what was available and there was a movie hanging out of the slot. TWICE. Whoever returned the movies put them in backwards, the barcodes couldn't be read, and the machine spit them back out. Whoever those people are, they're lucky I was the one to happen upon their dangling movie as I returned it for them right then and there. Hoping that someone would do me that same favor should I, for whatever reason, walk away before making sure the movie really was accepted.

Me too, the time it didn't work I went straight home and contacted them, I put the movie in correctly it just didn't process it. They were great, emailed me back within 2 days to say the movie was there and I was not going to be charged, in the meantime they said I would get emails but I could disregard them. All this was done via email so I had documentation just in case. It's very very rare that I have any issues with Redbox.

So, I had him call when I could hear .. because I wanted to know what was going on. They said it was a charge from May that they "forgot" to put through. :confused3 We don't use the card very often, because it's our bill account, and not supposed to be used as a redbox card. He usually doesn't even have that card in his possession ... we leave it at home to pay our bills online.

I looked through, and I didn't see a charge for the movie back in MAY, but I just think it's really weird that it didn't go through their system before this.

I think we're done with redbox. It's honestly cheaper, for us, to rent a movie off of cable ... and then we won't have to constantly check our bank accounts to make sure they don't charge more than once. It's just ... weird.

That definitely is strange, but it sounds accurate since you couldn't find a charge in May. I'm surprised they somehow processed it now...4 months later. Very odd.

For your family, you are correct, it is cheaper for you to rent a movie at home vs use Redbox. Redbox really is only great for folks who watch a movie the day they rent it and return it the next day (like my husband and I). Redbox has been amazing for us since we always complained about having to pay $5 for a dvd and sometimes return it the same day.

i know its only a $1 but you can check with your credit card company. companies only have so long to settle a charge or put it through legally and that sounds deceptive, especially considering you just happened to have rented a movie on another card that same day they decided to settle the old charge but you were not aware of renting a movie in may unpaid for. :confused3
