Ever attend funeral of someone you don't know?

Here's the question.

Your sister has a on/off relationship with a man for 2 years. They are in their 40's-divorced with kids.

The man's ex-wife's mother dies.(The grandmother of his kids-he still talks with grandma)

You have not met ex-wife or Mother of ex wife, nor the kids
(Your sister has been with the 2 school aged kids when boyfriend has them on the weekends-he has 2 other grown kids)

So-would you go to the funeral of your sister's boyfriend's ex wife's Mother?

Nope. Only unless your sister was so grief-stricken over the death that she needed your support.

Yes I have gone to a funeral of someone I didn't know, but in my case, I know the deceased's wife quite well. I went out of respect/support of her.

I wouldn't go in your more removed situation, unless my sister specifically asked me to go for some reason.

The sister (who is dating the ex) has never met ex wife or Mother of ex wife-she wasn't "grief striken". I don't even think the girlfriend should have been there-much less her sister.

My cousin is the ex-wife-I actually know the sister of the girlfriend(works with my DH) and was confused to see her at the funeral

I went to DH's uncle's funeral and I had never met him before. DH was my fiance at the time and I went to support him and his parents/sisters. I think what your describing is weird.

Yes, I have. Actually, just today. It wasn't a funeral, but it was a memorial service held at a funeral home.

Did I know him directly? No. But he was a teacher from school, and we both shared the same pain, medically. He taught several of my friends as well. I went to show support for him, his family, and his students.

In your case, no I would not go to the funeral.

Nope.
I don't even like to go to funerals of people I know and love... no way would I go to one of someone I didn't even know. Nope. Ain't going to happen.

Yes, this past Friday, actually. I didn't know him personally, but he is a relative and was murdered in a robbery gone wrong, so we figured that his mother (my mom's cousin) needed all of the support she could get.
