I'd try contacting them, for the DL 5K Susan and I wanted to be at the finish area for Cathy and they would have accomadated us but we became so involved that instead we were able to see her race by us then she found us as well as Mom who came in a wee bit after Cathy.
Helping out with the 5K sure gave me a new appreciation for the volunteers at the other races I do. It was a lot of work. From unwrapping the pallets the stuff is delivered to your area on to putting out all the bottles, filling cups, cutting oranges, separating bananas from the bunch. And lots of fun. I highly recommend it to everyone. We might not be able to do it in January but I'm giving it thought to see if they need volunteers in May when I go down to do the Minnie15K.
MEN!!!! You are most definitely needed for volunteering. The guys we were lucky to have (think we had 5, ladies out numbered them LOL) with us were greatly appreciated. They were very upbeat and boy was I happy to have them do some of the lifting and carrying for me LOL I know had I been required to take time to carry things a few times it would have taken me longer. We did eventually get a box mover thingy but when all I needed was another box of oranges or ran out of poweraide and the guys just switched me out with a full one it was extremely helpful having their muscles
Have fun Terri!!!! At least in the refreshment area at the end for the 5K we were on our feet from checking in at 4:30 am (think we were earlier) until when I got off around just before 10. I remember leaving and looking out the closed gates at the line up of people waiting to get in.
Later that day remember to take it easy on your feet and legs after standing for so long. We made the mistake of doing a 4 hr walking tour later that afternoon and all that before doing the Half which probably added to Susan's problems.
It's a lot of work, it's a lot of fun and I really think everyone should give it a try. For us we were able to see the 5K winner run by us and be able to cheer him on and everyone who followed until too many were at the tables and our attention switched to the finishers and we were able to congratulate them and see them smiling and happy. It was GREAT!!! I'd do it in a heartbeat again.
By the way when I say hard work I don't want to scare anyone off but the tables aren't set up for you just to stand behind. You have to set them up and while everything is something you can easily do you really are moving to get the tableclothes on the table. The numerous powerade jugs set up. The water out. Cups filled. And whatever else there might be to do. The time it takes to set up FLIES by. Before we knew it the race had started and we were still finishing up as we saw the runners thru the gates entering the DL Park and knew they would be at our tables shortly.
Family & friends wanting to take part in your runners weekend (be it 5K up to the Full, hey if they have need for the diaper Dash and kids races I recommend those too those kids are just too darn cute!) I think you will find you come out of the experience positive and truly feeling like you contributed. I felt very proud to be a part of our 5K racers' day in this way and loved seeing them race by and then at the end as they grabbed a water. It's a great feeling.
So to our volunteers

You guys ROCK! As a Half Racer I have an even greater appreciation for your cheering, your time given and everything you do for us.
Terri have a blast!!!
