Too bad they are not doing EMH and EEH before 10/1. Was hoping they would and not hold everything up until 10/1.

The very idea of the ticket books is proof that Disney parks were NEVER meant to be egalitarian. Want more? Pay more. That’s just the way the world works.
Prior to WDW instituting an all-inclusive ticket in 1982, nearly ALL amusement parks operated on a model based on separate tickets for admission and rides. Walt Disney was simply operating using the same business model nearly everyone else followed prior to 1982.

My local (sketchy) amusement park was not elitist because they charged for rides. Quite the opposite!

When WDW switched to an all-inclusive ticket in 1982, many fans were furious! They thought Disney was no longer egalitarian, that Disney was becoming elitist, that Disney was trying to price out ordinary folk.

Me? As someone who just wanted rides, I thought they were the best tickets ever!

We have never viewed Disney as a particularly good value, but have been happy (willing?) to pay a premium for "magic", nostalgia and being able to experience it with our kids. With little ones we prioritize location and stayed at Bay Lake Tower for both of our family visits via renting points; we anticipate doing the same when we go again in 2022. While this benefits us, I think I would still rather just have the longer regular hours and Magic Express if given the choice. One of my favorite memories from our first trip was walking around a very much not-packed Magic Kingdom on a day it was open until midnight with my daughter. That same trip we got off the DME and walked straight to the park, and when we got back to the room later in the day for a break our luggage was there waiting for us. Those experiences were tremendous, and I think that losing them does take away from the "holy crap Disney just does this right and better" factor we built into our planning process.

They have two moderate and two value resorts closed right now with no opening date. They are literally choosing to put an availability crunch on those categories and open more Deluxes instead.
Good because the parks legit cant handle anymore people... they are opening much to slow. waiting for oct 1st to open all the things is the stupidest thing Disney could be doing right now

There’s a staffing shortage right now. Not just in Orlando, across the country. I’m certain Disney wants those hotels open ASAP.

I would love to see the makeup of existing travelers.........My guess is the majority are AP holders who have already paid or DVC owners who have to use or lose....remember its only at approximately 40% capacity right now...............DVC is booked solid and you cant find any rooms available.............people still had to use those points despite the parks being closed for months (i'm one of them)
Nope, not in our situation.
We have 4 different families going at different times (in our extended family) none are what you described.

Cash hotel and staying on sight; value and moderate stays. Some of us have 2-3 trips booked over the next year. We also prioritize our spending during the year so we can go, ie no cable tv, no new car every few years, low cost smart phones. Just some examples.

Not really greiving or are angry about the changes or costs at Disney now as we see the 'getting less and paying more' in our world now. It is not just at Disney.
Taking a vacation outside of Disney is a regular thing too, we dont always take Disney vacations only. We are not obsessed.

Keep magic and kindness in your life everyone.

I suspect this mostly has to do with staffing. Let's consider what's opening next:

- Polynesian - July 19
- Animal Kingdom Lodge - August 26

These hotels have associated DVC resorts. Their lobbies, bell services, housekeeping, pools, and food courts are already staffed and open. For these hotel, it's a matter of adding a bit more staff to cover the increased room occupancy.

It's going to take a ton of staff to open Port Orleans and the two remaining All Stars. Several are reporting that Disney is having difficulty hiring.

There are staffing shortages, but they could absolutely choose to focus staffing on the lower tier resorts, with more rooms and more demand, if that was their priority.

Every Deluxe hotel had a corresponding DVC component. Disney by law is required to open the DVC buildings. Since there is so much staffing and operational overlap between the DVC buildings and deluxe resorts, it makes sense to open them first.

If Disney really wanted to cut out the working and middle class, they wouldn’t have opened the Values at all.

I don’t think they’re trying to figure out how they can suck every last penny from the top 1% of Americans. They are making business decisions based on data.

You are reading way too much into this. Of course a business making decisions is making business decisions. Deluxe is the priority. The point is merely that right now the supply is low, not that demand is super high when it comes to the lower tiers.
