After much begging and pleading from my boys, we finally had enough time last night to watch The Incredibles DVD last night. This was our first time seeing it.

Tonight we were watching Disc 2 with all the added features and my DH selected the bio's of all the other superhero's. One of them was MACROBEAM and it states that he is androgynous and then refers to him/her being meticulous about their hair blowing in the wind!

Dh and I just kind of looked at each other in shock!

Has anyone else noticed this? I thought the movie was kind of dark with the infidelity innuendo, and cape accidents, but the androgynous reference totally threw us!

What is so shocking about androgyny? It's not sexual at all. It just means the person can't be assigned to either gender based on appearance (remember Pat on Saturday Night Live?).

Of course if you really want to get into nitty gritty, there are people who lack secondary physical characteristics associated with being male/female - but I don't think you have to go there if you don't want to.

Also, please remember that the Incredibles was a PG-13 picture - probably because of the points you bring up.

I thought it was just PG. Still, the point is that kids probably should only view it with parental supervision.

Which is what PG means anyway. Parental Guidence.

Webster's Dictionary says:

Androgynous-
having both female and male characteristics
and being neither distinctly masculine nor feminine, as in dress, appearance, or behavior.

sexual? now thats just silly :p

Oh :rotfl2: I forgot. Back in the 80's my brother was also "meticulous about his hair blowing in the wind" - when he left for school he'd walk with his head tilted AS IF the can of hairspray would mess his do! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: oh those were the days.

I thought the cape accidents were hillarious. :earboy2:

"Androgynous"

Here comes Dick, he's wearing a skirt
Here comes Jane you know she's sportin' a chain
Same hair, a revolution
Same build, evolution
Tomorrow who's gonna fuss?
And they love each other so, androgynous
Closer than you know, love each other so, androgynous

We'll don't get him wrong, and don't get him mad
He might be a father but he sure aint a dad
And she don't need the advice that is sent to her
She's happy the way she looks, she's happy with her gender
And they love each other so, androgynous
Closer than you know, love each other so, androgynous

Mirror image, see no damage, see no evil at all
Cupie dolls and urine stalls will be laughed at
The way you're laughed at now

Something meets boy and something meets girl
They both look the same they're overjoyed in this world
Same hair revolution
Unisex evolution
Tomorrow who's gonna fuss?

And tomorrow Dick is wearing pants,
Tomorrow Jane is wearing a dress
Future outcasts and they don't last
And today people dress the way that they please
The way they tried to do in the last centuries

And they love each other so, androgynous
Closer than you know, love each other so, androgynous.

If you are looking for others what about Pleakley on the Stitch series?

ROFL... this is one of the funniest boards ever.. I thought the cape acidents were very funny.. Also I dont think the movie was 'sexual' at all...

infidelity innuendo? can someone explain? (i haven't seen the whole movie yet)
Thanks!

There is a part in the movie where Mrs. Incredible believes that Mr. Incredible is cheating on her due to a few leading events. It is used as a form of plot development, and makes sense in driving the movie. Actually, without it, the "Bad Guy" may have won....

Nothing offensive... and besides if you want to cast shame on Disney infidelity, look no further than Snow White and her SEVEN dwarfs... Now, I always thought that was a rather rediculous point myself seeing as it is what it is, a kids movie... But hey, implifications exist in almost every scenario ever created by anyone, it just takes the right mind.

And the cape accidents were just darn funny...

I guess anything can be read into something if you take the time to look hard enough. There is nothing offensive in The Incredibles, and it is appropriately rated. My 10 year old loves it, and I think nothing of letting her watch it without supervision. As for kids younger than about 6, much will likely go over their heads anyway, but they will think the action is funny.

LOL I'm 32 and apparantly a lot of it has gone over my head. Anyone care to explain what the cape incidents have to do with this? I just thought they were saying hey, capes can get sucked into jet engines and you can be killed?
Am I totally sheltered and naive?

Well since we won a Framed Incredibles Giclee print from Best Buy (Grand Prize! for purchasing our DVD there) I take back all the bad things I said! LOL!

I like my Disney Light and Airy and we really did enjoy the movie, but I winced every time I saw the cape accidents or all the dead superhero's. Superhero's don't die!

As far as the androgeny goes, we think it is one of those "raspberry" type references that won't be noticed by most but there is a cult of people (maybe I should join) that specifically watch movies to find these. Kind of like Hidden Mickeys.

Dh and I have recovered from our shock and will proudly display our print!

I really like it when the animators toss us adults a couple of little jokes like that. Stuff that will easily go over little Timmy's head, but will make his jaded old man giggle.

Now, on the other hand, including a character like, oh, Hermy the Happy Hermaphrodite might have taken a bit more 'splainin to do. And that wouldn't be as cool.

Now, where is my supa-suit!?!
