As I'm sure you can imagine, the past few days have been very surreal for me with my mom's death. I've had my good moments, and bad moments, and the days seem soooooo long right now. But, I wanted to share some of what I've been going through in the past few days with you.

When my siblings and I were at the hospital saying our goodbyes to my mom on Friday, my brother-in-law was at home with his kids. My sister told him to be vague when they asked about my mom, and that they could talk to them together when she got home. This particular niece and nephew are very inquisitive. They want to know everything. So, all day, they were bugging their dad to tell them what was going on with my mom. My eight year old nephew Matthew finally says to his dad, "You know more than you are telling us. We have the right to know everything. We're more related to Nana than you are. We have the same DNA." It's so funny to think of that coming out of the mouth of a five year old. I guess you can't argue with DNA evidence :)

One of my neighbors also died yesterday. I keep on telling my neighbors that yesterday just wasn't a good day for our street. I went to visit my neighbors wife last night, and we shared our pain with each other in a warm embrace. I said to his wife, "I feel like my mom has company on her way up to heaven," and she agreed. So, here's to Wayne, too! Thanks for keeping my mom company on the trip to heaven.

I got a smile last night when I really needed it. As many of you know, I love going to Jellyrolls when I go to Disney World, and Scotty and Ray are my favorite piano players there. Well, a friend of mine went to Jellyrolls last night. I knew she was going, so I sent along a tip for Scotty and Ray with a request for "Buttercup," which is my favorite song that Scotty sings there. So, when Scotty sang the song, my friend called me on my cell phone, and left a voicemail of Scotty singing the song for me. I reached her on her cell phone later in the evening, and she told me that Scotty was asking where I was from the stage. It was nice to hear my favorite piano guy's voice last night :) I think I've dialed into my voice mail five times to listen to it in the past 18 hours.

Thanks, everyone, for your continued support, encouragement, and kind words. I'm so lucky to have all of you in my life. Please continue to send good thoughts our way, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, when we have the wake and funeral.

Karen
