Hello,

My Dad recently passed away. I had been planning our next Disney trip since my last trip in Sept! Now I would like my Mom to come as she would be left home alone. I am trying to encourage her, I know the pain is still too fresh.... I will miss him dearly and not a day will go by that I won't think of him <3

My Mom has bad legs and would benefit from using a scooter. If someone could point me towards a vendor. We will need it for 10 days, I have been trying to read up on the scooters.

Thanks so much!

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your Dad. I know how difficult it is to lose a parent.

I have a personal ECV now, but when I used to rent from outside vendors, I would call three vendors that seemed to be well-thought of from places like this forum, and get rates and information from each of them. Based on those conversations, I picked Walker every time, and was always pleased with their services. DISCLAIMER: I have not rented from Walker in at least 2 years now, so your mileage may vary.

This is NOT a blanket endorsement of Walker, but rather an illustration of how *I* arrived at my decision to rent from them. I was not comfortable deciding based on a website alone, and so I called.

I wish you, your Mom, and your entire family comfort and respite for your trip.

Thanks for the reply!

I will take a look at the Walker site. I have no idea of any of the vendor's names, so now I have a starting point.

My condolences on your family's loss.

There are vendors listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread pinned near the top of this forum. Towards the end of Post #2 are both featured and some non-featured vendors.

Enjoy your vacation!

I have also used Walker. They were great.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Just to let you know, we also went to Disney just after we lost my Dad. Just 2 months later. It was a wonderful trip. So often, we would say, "Dad would have loved this." Or, "Glad Dad wasn't here, he would have hated that." We also did a couple of things that we knew he would have wanted to do even if it wasn't our thing, like order dessert for every meal. "This brownie is for you, Dad."

Thanks for the kind words... I can see us doing that too! I do hope my Mom comes, she has never been to Disney! I know she may not want to go to the parks every day but just being close by us will allow her to feel safe. She will be 79 in April and she is a very nervous person so the thoughts of her staying alone ... scare me....

I'm also very sorry for your loss. I hope this trip will offer some comfort, good memories and it's a nice way of honoring your dad I think. Both of my parents had passed by the time I was 26 and I have some wonderful memories of going with my mom to WDW. I always think of it when I'm there. :)

I have bad knees (need both replaced) and have rented from Buena Vista Scooters our last trip and I really liked the scooter I got which is their portable model: https://www.buenavistascooters.com/products_details.asp?id=3 I am going to WDW next week and rented the same scooter even though I don't need portability. What I really like was the tight turning radius - you could turn on a dime. It was very easy to maneuver because of that - even in the lines. The battery lasted me all day (long summer days) so no issue there - and they are a Disney preferred provider which just means they can drop off it off for you at the hotel and pick up and the hotel handles it. BVS and Walker seem to get the best reviews here -and maybe there are others - but you can't go wrong with that scooter. It was my first time using one and I wasn't thrilled about it but it was great.
