This will be my first trip to Disney World. I have a small (Pomeranian) Service animal, and will be renting an EVC.

I am hoping I can find one with a good sized floor/foot mat that she can sit on between my feet. She of course can walk beside me, but it's a LOT if walking plus even in December I worry about the temperature of the concrete on her paw-pads.

Any recommendations on a place to rent, style of ECV would be greatly appreciated.

Also are small dog strollers allowed?

Thank you!

Keeping a loose dog on a scooter is just not a good idea even if you hitch the dog's leash somehow. Even using a soft crate if it fits would be iffy. Leaving the dog alone on the scooter while you do a ride will probably not be allowed.

For one she would not be loose on the scooter she would be attached to my ankles she couldn't go anywhere. She never leaves my side

For two I'm 61 years old there's no rides that I want to go on that she couldn't go on. I might maybe like a small world or something but I'm not about the rides I'm just about watching my grandchildren have fun. I could never leave her on the scooter I don't even leave her home alone not sure why you got that from what I said.

I thought the same thing about leaving dog in ECV. Of course you never mentioned that.
Funny how your mind thinks the opposite.

My daughter mentioned the basket and I'm not sure how big the baskets are, I mean this is my first time there so yeah a small blanket in the basket or a small blanket by my feet I mean she doesn't leave me she does she won't jump down or anything but of course I want her secured because you never know she after all is a dog

Surely your service dog is trained to never run from you or jump down from you until she is released from duty?

I may be wrong here, so someone in the know, please correct me, but IIRC, no animal, including a service dog is allowed on any ride. She would accompany you to the boarding area and then be kenneled until you exit the ride vehicle.

Isn't that what I just said? I thought this was a place to go and ask people questions not to have people be jerks to you.
Sorry if you took offense, but your last line said she still a dog and implied you wanted to secure her in case she jumped down. You came here with your question but you seem very defensive to those of us trying to give you some advice.

Getting things back on track...

OP, I would call the rental vendor you are considering for your ECV, and ask them your questions. They can tell you the sizes of the floorboards and/or baskets of their devices they rent. Many people here rent from, and have a good experience with Gold Mobility.

You should also read this page from Disney World's own website:

Service Animals

Replying to my own post, as I stand corrected that there are a handful of attractions that would allow your service dog to ride with you.

Service animals are allowed on many attractions. The ones with a height requirement will have a kennel available or maybe allow a rider swap. No other animals are allowed in the park.

OP - a 4-wheel model ECV probably has more foot space than a 3-wheel. Whether that is enough for your service dog I can’t say. I agree with PP that contacting a few vendors would be a good idea.

never had a service dog but unless she is a larger pom she should fit in basket and yes I would secure. I think it would be better than at your feet because you can see her at all times. at my feet I would be afraid of stepping on her if I moved my feet as it will be harder to see her

Questions are being asked based on statements you’ve made. A real service dog will not run away…they’re not just “…still a dog”.

Unless your dog is trained to provide a specific service related to your disability, it’s not a service dog, and thus not permitted at Disney. Disney can and may ask what service your dog has been trained to perform for you, and based in the answer, can legally prevent the dog from entering the park.

If it is a true service animal and not an ESA then it should stay wheee you out it whether at your feet or in your basket

I agree a 4 wheel scooter would have more room then the 3 wheel one

I think enough has been said about animal itself. Let's keep this on-track of using an ECV to get around the parks with a service animal. I'm sure OP is not the only guest who has mobility needs and also uses a service animal.

You are absolutely right to be concerned about the amount of walking when using an ECV, a friend of ours had a service dog (who is now retired) and was actually a good sized dog, even he had trouble by the end of the day. As for the temperature, she would put socks on him (which he hated, but it was better than burned feet). Him riding on the scooter would not have been an option. I can't even imagine a smaller dog.

Given your situation, I would say rent either a Maxima (despite not needing it for the capacity, in this case it is space) or a 4 wheel victory 10. Do note that the Maxima cannot be put into your own vehicle, but can be used on all Disney transportation.

Also, call whatever provider you want to rent from (I highly recommend Gold mobility) and explain the situation and ask what options they have. Gold Mobility does offer a rear basket, but do note that it has to be removed when getting on most forms of Disney transportation and can be difficult in some elevators, but the basket is larger than the front basket if it helps.

It’s against Disney policy for a wheelchair or ECV to tow anything.

I’m not trying to be crass, just honest. If you’re a small person and have decent movement in your legs you will have a little more room in the ECV deck, but none of the decks are particularly big. Maybe 20 inches wide, maximum. And about 20 or 22 inches long. i
