Evacuated from Splash Today

I just got back from two days in the parks. My mom is visiting from Florida and hasn't been to Disneyland in about 20 years. She's not big on thrill rides, so I was really excited that I convinced her to go on Splash Mountain! Everything went smoothly all the way through the final "splash", but then the ride broke down! We were the last log to come down the hill and were still sitting at the bottom when we hit a "log jam" as the announcement called it 8 logs deep. After a few minutes the CM announced over the loud speaker that they'd be coming to get us. The CM came and got us out of the logs one by one and we walked along the side by the water through the rest of the ride. My mom was a little shaken since she'd never been on the ride before and didn't understand what was happening, but I actually thought it was awesome to get to walk along the side! We even got to walk through the final riverboat scene. It was funny because they turned off the sound, but the characters were all still moving. I realllllly wanted a picture of me next to some of the characters since we were standing next to them for several minutes, but I didn't bring my iPhone with me because the battery was low. Several others were taking video of the entire evacuation so I'll look for that on YouTube I'm sure haha. We then went through the backstage area where we saw all the water pumps and extra log vehicles. The ride was down for a few hours yesterday and undoubtedly was down for a while today as well so I'm not sure if it's the same issue.

Anyway, when it was all said and done, I got one of the "special" Fastpasses that allows you to go to the front of any ride you wanted in either park...ahem...any ride EXCEPT Star Tours, something that was specifically written on the ticket and was emphasized by the CM's. I just thought it was funny that Star Tours' popularity is so great that the special FP's can't be used.

Too bad you weren't at the top of the hill where you would of seen more. Glad you had good bad luck.

Sounds kinda fun. :) I have always wanted to be evacuated off a ride like that, and be able to walk through it. And that is funny about the FP not being good for ST. I am sure everyone would wanna use it on that ride.

Same thing happened to me last summer but was on the up ramp to one of the medium splashes. We were unloaded one at a time and walked through the rest of the ride and out back. We also got a "super" fast pass for anything except WOC. I think I have bad luck with rides, I have been evacuated off many rides at the Disney parks but it's kind of fun to see the back sides of the rides.

This exact thing happened to me on our Grad Night at DL. It was crazy. We had to exit the logs in not exactly the safest way. Couldn't see anything of the interior of the ride ince off but seeing backstage on Splash is pretty cool.

Jeez does that thing break down a lot or what? But yay for having fun with it!

They do it for the new rides. :) A few years back we got one of those passes for anything but the Nemo subs!

So does it really mean ANY ride or just any ride that uses FP? We ended up using it on a ride that has FP, but for a bit I thought of using it on Peter Pan but didn't know how I would go about bypassing the line.

I would go in through the exit and hand it to the CM, just like a person would a GAC if they needed to use an alternate entrance.

We got stuck on SM on our May trip, ended up sitting there with the lights on for a while before finishing the ride in the light. They must have gotten it fixed, because they let us ride it again without exiting. So, no cool FP for that one!

Those are true "front of the line" passes and they are good at ANY ride, not just fast pass rides. Been bumped by those things on Peter Pan and Dumbo, lol. DH and DS got evac'd off Space, but they weren't given those passes...but they got to see the inside of the 'horn.

I've not been stuck on Splash Mountain, but have been on it with the sound off...it was weird! It must've been really strange to walk through the finale scene like that...

I find Splash to be one of the most trippy/scary of all DL rides as it is, but that does sound freaky.

I have been to DL over 40 times in my lifetime and I have never had to be evacuated from a ride. I've been stopped in a ride, but it always started back up. Don't know if it's luck or not.

I was on space Mtn. at wdw and the lights turned on. It was kinda interesting to see the ride that way. We got fp to go on it again when it was working. I've seen people being evacuated from the tip top highest point of screamin and hope they got more than a fp. That would be so scary!!!

Kinda cool getting to see behind everything. We've only been evacuated off of Pirates. That wasn't too fun as we actually sat there for over an hour waiting. It was right after the two drops. Kids were crying, we were missing our BB reservation. But when they got us off the boats we got to go behind there and even saw a break room. That part was cool! They did give us those fastpasses, and I remember at the time Nemo was not allowed. lol

We were evacuated off of SM once...at the end of the ride in the tunnel...as soon as the ride stopped there was all kinds of commotion and over the loudspeaker they announced everyone would be evacuated ASAP that they would not be trying to run it. It never did open again that day.

One time I got stuck right before the lift for the final drop. They got everyone out of their logs and led us through a backstage area. It was weird because we ended up coming out by the penny pressing machine at the end even though it seemed like we walked only a few steps!! :cutie:
They gave us fastpasses though!

Later that night, my friends and I decided to ride it 6 times in a row because there was no line! haha

It is unfortunate that it had to happen the first time with your mother like that!

There are also some out there that specifically state that they are not good at TSMM. We got those once. Other than any specifically listed, yes, they are good for ANY line.

the same thing happen to me and my brother last year. We got all the way up to the top and it stopped. They took us out and we walked down the stairs next to the hill, outside to the back lot area and we came out close to the exit of splash where tigger, winnie the pooh characters come in and out to take pictures with guests. It was kind of cool to see the back area of the ride. They cast member that was leading our group kept saying no video taping or taking pictures.
