I just got back from two days in the parks. My mom is visiting from Florida and hasn't been to Disneyland in about 20 years. She's not big on thrill rides, so I was really excited that I convinced her to go on Splash Mountain! Everything went smoothly all the way through the final "splash", but then the ride broke down! We were the last log to come down the hill and were still sitting at the bottom when we hit a "log jam" as the announcement called it 8 logs deep. After a few minutes the CM announced over the loud speaker that they'd be coming to get us. The CM came and got us out of the logs one by one and we walked along the side by the water through the rest of the ride. My mom was a little shaken since she'd never been on the ride before and didn't understand what was happening, but I actually thought it was awesome to get to walk along the side! We even got to walk through the final riverboat scene. It was funny because they turned off the sound, but the characters were all still moving. I realllllly wanted a picture of me next to some of the characters since we were standing next to them for several minutes, but I didn't bring my iPhone with me because the battery was low. Several others were taking video of the entire evacuation so I'll look for that on YouTube I'm sure haha. We then went through the backstage area where we saw all the water pumps and extra log vehicles. The ride was down for a few hours yesterday and undoubtedly was down for a while today as well so I'm not sure if it's the same issue.
Anyway, when it was all said and done, I got one of the "special" Fastpasses that allows you to go to the front of any ride you wanted in either park...ahem...any ride EXCEPT Star Tours, something that was specifically written on the ticket and was emphasized by the CM's. I just thought it was funny that Star Tours' popularity is so great that the special FP's can't be used.
