EV Charging at WDW???

DH and I will be staying at CBR this November. We recently bought an electric car (Chevy Volt) and were wondering if anyone has had any success with being able to charge their EV at the resort or any of the parks. If they don't have any actual charging stations yet, we could also get by with just a standard 120V outlet. So what are the chances they would just let us use an extension cord and plug in somewhere? It costs less than $1 to fully charge the battery. Considering the amount of money we always end up spending there, I'm sure they'll end up getting their money's worth from us. :rotfl:

Unfortunately... there are currently no EV charging stations on Disney property. The closest would be at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress... which is close to DTD and about 5 miles from your resort.

I don't recall seeing any exterior outlets on the village buildings of CBR but I could be mistaken. Even if you managed to "score" a ground floor, parking lot facing room (and use an outlet within the room).. the distance to the actual parking lot/your vehicle may require a fairly long ext. cord!

There is no harm in simply asking the front desk (Custom House) for some "juice." That would probably be an easier option (between bell services, maintenance, etc... there's got to be some easy access to power supplies!)

Hope that helps!

There are no charging stations and I would not expect to be able to use an extension cord. Honestly, that is part of what you have to think about when you purchase one of those vehicles. Not everywhere is going to be prepared for them because they are still a pretty small amount of the market.

I realize charging stations aren't very common yet, and I'm fully prepared to run the car on gas if need be (it gets 40 mpg on gas). I just figured I can't be the first EV owner to visit WDW, and was wondering if anyone was able to charge anywhere on property yet. I saw a thread awhile back where someone reported charging their EV at the golf cart charging area at FW, but haven't heard anything since. I figure, since Universal now has EV chargers, Disney should be installing them soon.

As a side note, you'd be surprised how many businesses, hotels, etc allow you to use an extension cord to plug into a standard 120V outlet at their location. A full charge only costs 60 cents (based on our electric rates here in PA), so many businesses will gladly offer it if it means we'll buy something from them.

That's actually a good idea! I think I'll try calling the front desk a few days before we arrive, just to see if we can arrange something. Even if we had to park in a far back corner of a parking lot just to get a charge, that would be fine with us!
