Ethical eating at Disneyland?

There was actually a both at the state fair here last year selling FRIED BUTTER!!! I just can't go there... I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to fair foods, but fried fat???

OMG I saw fried butter on Oprah once :lmao: She was at some fair, maybe the Texas State fair or something like that. There was this guy that had this huge van that he sold all manner of fried things out of. Apparently when he bought his fried food van and started selling food (and I use that word loosely :lmao: ) at that particular fair he quit his day job. So he earns enough money in the 2 weeks at the fair so he doesn't need to work for the rest of the year. His newest thing was fried butter. Oprah tried it, she seemed to like it :lmao::lmao:

Maybe they froze the butter? Or did a deep-fried ice cream type thing, wrapping the butter in bread to cushion it from the heat?

Jack: No idea. It's not an official term as far as I know - some people talk about being locavores, conscientious omnivores, slow foodists, whatever. I wasn't sure whether to put "healthy eating" or "eco-friendly eating" or "non-CAFO eating" in the title, so this seemed like a good generic term. Again, it's not meant to offend anyone and I'm not interested in starting a debate on the merits of various diet philosophies in this thread.

Never heard the term before and I am lucky if I get an hours worth of TV a week. Most of it rots your brain.

Okay...? We don't have a TV, ourselves. Not sure how this relates to eating habits, though.

He's explaining why he's asking what the term "ethical eating" means. He's making the point that he isn't exposed to a lot of media, which may be why he has never heard of it.

I would imagine Napa Rose uses grass fed beef and free range chicken. Maybe Steakhouse 55 also? If it is the menu usually touts it.

Bumbershoot - What do you mean that Trader Joe's isn't trusted with regards to HFCS? Do you mean their ingredients are labeled wrong? I've always thought some of Trader Joe's nutrition labels seem wonky, but I didn't think their ingredients could be wrong.

Hi New Zealand Friend! The small debate ended up actually being a friendly one. If you head over the WDW boards, they can bite your head off. Luckily, you spoke with the very hospitable and nice Californians! ;)

I'm orginally from winnipeg. You need to be careful when ragging on American food. You guys eat fries with gravy!!! What about poutine? It's just what you are used to. I'll take perogies though.:)

Very true, Branc. I notice a HUGE difference between the DL and WDW boards. The people on this side are respectful and kind, whereas the other board is like going into shark-infested waters (sometimes). There are nice people there as well, but you get more of the "fighters" lol.

Ah, so that's why I haven't been flamed, told "use the search feature; somebody posted this topic 4 years ago" or basically been spoken down to. I have only been answered promptly and very helpfully! I've only been posting here and in the Canadian forums (and we all know how polite Canadians are :rotfl:). Thank you Disneyland DISers for being so cool! :thumbsup2 I hope that is an omen to come for my experience at DLR.

I am going to second those suggestions - especially Napa Rose. I would be surprised if they did not use grass fed beef and free range chicken. Of course, it is quite expensive but I can tell you from experience that they food at both of them is great!

PBS is going to have Food, inc. on this week. If Smokering had not posted, I probable wouldn't have noticed it. Thanks, Smokering!

OT -
"You guys eat fries with gravy!!!"

Try potato chips with gravy. We went to visit my family in Denmark when they first got potato chips in the store. (I know I am dating myself). My aunt had no idea what to do with them but got some because we were comming. Our first dinner with the whole family, we had chips with gravy - it is a potato and they are danes. It actually was pretty good. Fond memories!
