ET Adventure - why did they ask our names?

I'm currently working on my trip report of my recent holiday and it prompted a question. On entering the ET Adventure at Universal Studios we had to tell the attendant our names which were then imput into a computer. Why? Did we miss something? Can someone please help as its really bugging me!

Hi there, they ask your names because right at the end of the ride, when you go past ET he says goodbye to you by your name!.
We missed this first time round, as we were too busy looking around.
Hope that clears it up LOL!.

The first time we went on ET we asked why they needed our names, and they did spoil the surprise somewhat by telling us to listen to ET at the end.

However after a 2hour queue we were looking forward to this, only to be totally let down when ET spoke about 5 names at once and we couldn't understand a word he said.

Oh well, it has never stopped us going on the ride since either at USF or USH, although in fairness the queues have never been longer than half an hour since that fateful day.....!!!

DDs have great fun with this - they're someone different each time. I think we've had Ali G, J Lo, Brandy and Monica (that was a few years back!), to name but a few. I'm sure the attendants have heard them all.

Last time we all said our names were Bob.So ET said 'Goodbye Bob,goodbye Bob,goodbye Bob.........' I guess you just had to be there

our experiance wasw the same as julian we couldn't understand a word he said. & the kids didn't believe me when i pointed out he'd just said our names.

perhaps 5 at once were too much for him!!!!!!

My sons and DH have unusual names so the computer just comes up with the nearest thing - the substitute names always sound really funny!
