OK all you Aussie and Kiwi Dis-ers- where do you get a decent, strong espresso near DL??

I don't really like Starbucks much, but am prepared to settle for that at a pinch, but even the nearest branch of them is a wee way away from DL.

Surely there must a local coffee shop that won't freak out if I order "an 8oz cup containing a double espresso shot topped with smooth frothed milk "(the most accurate description I can come up with of a good old Kiwi/Oz 'flat white' - I know better than to use that term to order one of those! - or a 'long black'!!!:rotfl:)

Most places in the US are more comfortable making a "16oz peppermint white chocolate frappaccino" or some other such concoction, which only has a passing acquaintance with coffee!

Otherwise, it's just going to be filter coffee from the in-room machine at Hojo's... but 14 days at DL - I really am going to need some serious caffeine!

Sorry I'm no help as I don't drink coffee. However DH does (he likes it black and very strong). He thought the coffe was dire over there. I ended up buying him a t-shirt in DTD with a sign screenprinted on it that says "Out of Coffee - Lifes crap"

My DH who is also a coffee drinker went without for 3 weeks LOL
He just couldn't come at any of it, they don't do very good coffee anywhere there from what we could gather LOL

I would pack my own instant coffee and take it with you, even the coffee in the hotels is crap! I would order triple shots in a small cup of "moca" it was the closest thing to a cappocino by our standards. Hope that helps....

Right at the very end of Downtown Disney next to the Disneyland Resort Hotel, there is a bookstore/cafe there that will do a "low foam" latte if you ask. They were as close as I could come to a flat white (because that's what I asked for first... they looked at me like I was speaking greek!), though yes you'd need to ask for a double shot! (Not sure if they'd "get" that either lol :rotfl: )

Oh dear, this is sounding dire! We have a little two-cup plunger so may take that with us...
Thanks for the tip about the spot at DTD - maybe if I speak very slowly and ask for an "extra strong low-foam latte' I might get something approaching a flat white! Will let you know how I get on - I have been doing some research on the net and as we have a car, will check out a couple of coffeehouses further afield which sound good: Kaffa in Orange and Keans in Tustin - not exactly handy, but if we get desperate, who knows how far we will go!

Thanks for that link! I have been compiling lists of food places to check out (go Yelp!) and Little Saigon sounds like it has some great eats.

We are thinking we will spend a day doing the Long Beach area - cute retro shops on 4th St, maybe have a look at the Queen Mary, and get ourselves some good coffee as there are a couple of good coffee houses in the area.

This is proving to be a bit tricky to find closer to Hojo and DL- we really love our coffee - and by coffee I'm afraid I don't mean Starbucks - it will do at a pinch, but we prefer our coffee small and strong - not huge and sweet and milky. Independent coffee houses are everywhere in NZ and Australia and as a result Starbucks hasn't done so well here.

So we will be going cold turkey a little on our 14 day trip - a filter coffee from our in-room machine at Hojo's will get us going in the moring but by lunchtime we would love a decent espresso...with all the Aussies and Kiwis visiting DL surely someone could start a little place in Anaheim - maybe a coffee cart on S Harbor somewhere???

If anyone knows of a good coffee shop for espresso near DL PLEASE let me know - I have been trawling the web but it seems Kaffa in Orange and Keans in Tustin or Newport Beach are the closest...

So other than surfing the web for food and drink ideas (I have 3 page list already!! - well, we ARE going to be there for 14 days....) we are still working on DS9s Halloween costume - Hitchhiking Ghost from the HM - Looking for a top hat we can spray paint white/silver - not easy to find, so thinking I might have to make one out of cardboard! - but the thought of trying to get it to the US without bending it, means I may try and convince him to go back to Captain Jack Sparrow as his costume - wish me luck with that!:rolleyes1

A couple of years ago, I would roll my eyes when someone from Australia or NZ would comment on how wonderful their coffee is. Then I took a vacation to Australia for the first time in 2009 and now I get it. :worship: The coffee there was divine.

So when I hear Americans go "I gotta have my Starbucks" as if it's the be all in coffee, I just shake my head :sad2: and feel a bit sorry for them since they just don't know what they're missing.

I have found a few places in LA that serves great coffee like Oz & NZ, but they are few and far between.

Can't help you with Anaheim or OC, so hopefully, the place you listed will be decent. Also, Little Saigon has tons of bakery serving great strong Vietnamese style coffee where they add condense milk. Don't know if that's to your liking, but just throught I would throw it out there.

Also beware of some "coffee houses" in little saigon as there are not family friendly.

My DH is a big coffee drinker and likes it really strong. We ended up going to the McCafe in the McDonalds and ordering a cappuccino with an extra shot of coffee which he found suitable. :goodvibes

OMG that video is too funny!! DS11's eyes would be popping!! I love how everyone was so keen to stress how 'friendly and respectful' it all was...yeah, right!
