The local news as well as the county schoolboard just released a statement alerting people that an escaped prisoner is on the loose. They were transporting him from Kentucky to New Jersey and he somehow managed to get the cuffs or shackles off and escape. This happened about 2 miles from my house!!! I am at the end of a lane with nothing but woods around me. I keep having flashes of every horror movie I've ever watched and every little noise has me ready to call the police. I am thinking that after DS is picked up from school shortly, we will be spending the day out until DH comes home. I know(rationally) I am probably COMPLETELY overreacting, but being back here alone really creeps me out:scared1:

MARTINSBURG - On Wednesday, at approximately 3:30 a.m., State Police received a call of an escaped inmate. Troopers learned that a white male subject, Albert Voute, had fled on foot from the prisoner van he was being transported in after the van stopped at the Burger King Restaurant on Route 901 in the Spring Mills area of Falling Waters. The suspect was able to remove his leg shackles and exit the van. Troopers and deputies are currently in the area attempting to find the subject utilizing K-9's and the Maryland State Police helicopter. The suspect was being transported from Kentucky to New Jersey to face a charge of armed robbery by North Atlantic Extradition Services (NAES) which is a private company contracted to transport prisoners. Voute is a 36-year-old white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds with short black hair.

The suspect was last seen in an orange prison jumpsuit running north behind the Burger King restaurant. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

It's in the Spring Mills area, only about 15 minuted from my house:scared1:.

Guess I need to tune into 25Alive and check it out. It is on their website.

I would just stay inside and keep all your doors and windows locked. Hopefully they will find him soon!!!

Wow! I didn't realize you were that close to me! I'm walking back and forth and checking every window and door every 5 minutes...just a little worried. I go to pick up my son in 30 minutes and I think we are going to take a little trip. I just don't like being home alone with this going on.

We use to live close to a state prison and they always told us to leave a set of keys in a car. If a prisoner is running they just want to get away so if the keys are there they may take the car but will most likely leave you alone. We lived there for years and never had any problems because close to the prison is not where the prisoners wanted to be.

Prayers for all in the area.

Yep, Greencastle, PA. Hop on I-81 and can be in West by God Virginia in less than 15 minutes.

Come visit me today. You can help me convince my DH that he doesn't have to pack his whole wardrobe for Bike Week down in Ocean City:lmao:!!! For crying out loud, it starts tomorrow and we come back Sunday. You would think he was leaving and never coming back!!!

Wow! We were just up in Greencastle last week. DH works on the border of MD/PA and we have actually been toying with moving up that way. Thank goodness DH doesn't realize Bike Week is this week. He's going to look at one this weekend actually. I could see him needing to "break it in" on a nice little road trip over the wekend

Yikes! Stay safe.

Just out of curiosity, anyone else think that it might be a good idea to use GPS ankle bracelets on prisoners in transport with the sensors that say when they've been removed? Aren't they a whole lot harder to get off?

Eeps! Don't open any doors. Especially if you hear strange sounds.

Just picked up my DS(school is around the corner) and they had it under complete lockdown. DS was upset because they had no outside playtime! I made sure to thank the school for taking this seriously:)

My DDad is on his way over here and we will be heading out for the afternoon. If any prisoners, decide to stop by, they can, as long as they are long gone by the time I get home:lmao:

Leave out a plate of cookies, so they won't make a mess of your kitchen rummaging for homemade things to eat. :goodvibes

When I was 12-13, we had an escaped prisoner loose. We lived in a rural area and the distance between houses was pretty big.....often couldn't see one home from another. Ours was isolated and set back from the road. That prisoner just wouldn't be caught. We kept all doors and windows locked, weren't allowed to play outside, and when we caught the bus it was usually with an armed escort from at least one parent. Overkill? Not so much. When they finally caught him, he'd been holed up in our friends' home for several days, holding them hostage. They lived a couple of miles from us. :scared1: He didn't hurt anyone, thank goodness.

We had a small rash of robberies and were advised to take the remote garage door openers out of the car. Make SURE the door from the garage to the house is locked (people tend to forget that one). Stay safe. I hope they recapture the prisoner ASAP.

We have a mental hospital about a mile from my home, and I remember about 10 years ago a patient escaped and was running rampant through my neighborhood. My parents were at work and I was being babysit by my older siblings. One of our neighbors called and tipped us off to lock everything and not answer the door. I remember being terrified!! Several of my neighborhood friends saw the guy running through their backyards and down the streets, and eventually he was tackled in one of my playmate's backyards. :scared1:

I just got a text message from the Bergen County Sheriff's office that this guy escaped and they expect him to come back to NJ and to be on the lookout for him.

They are still searching for him. They've had police helicopters out and now the US Marshalls are involved. Being that he is in orange, I don't see him being able to take any main roads(he escaped right off of 81) My bet is that he is in the woods around here somewhere, possibly has trekked into Md by now.

DH should be home any minute. I can't wait to hear what he'll say about this...maybe I can finally convince him we NEED a dog:rolleyes1

Disneybound, Hammonds Mill? Im in that development too. Was taking a walk with my son when the sheriff told us to go back home.
