So I definetely know that we can only have 23 ppl plus bride and groom...well it's time to order the save the dates but for some reason I want to order 50. Don't ask why...since I know we cant have that many people at the ceremony...although I could easily invite 100...Im crazy for even talking about this...:scared1:

The reality is that we need to stay in budget and ordering 50 save the dates would double the price whereas ordering 25 would fall in to budget lines...

My question is should I send out 50 save the dates and hope that half of those people can't make it??? I think sending them is a nice gesture...and they are going to be soooo pretty...I can feel it...

No we are not having any thing at home...so it's not like the save the date will then lead to an invitation for an at home reception.

Im rambling I can tell...what do you think....

There was another thread about something like this...

You should not send people save-the-date cards if you do not plan on sending them invitations. If you do plan on sending them invitations, only invite those people that you know you want there. I think it is a very bad idea to hope that someone will not show up, because I think most people will at least try to come if they can, ESPECIALLY to Disney. I have about 20 people that I invited that I thought would not show up, who are coming to the wedding, so now I have to budget around that. Not a big deal for us, since we were already anticipating something like that happening anyway. Again, very bad idea to hope some people will not show. Especially if you are having an Escape and there is a minimum on how many people you can have. If you do send out those extra save-the-dates, some extra people may come, and then you have the whole ordeal of having to switch to a Wishes. Anyway, just my 2 cents, HTH!:thumbsup2

be verrrrry cautious sending save the dates to people you don't THINK will come. There are many people I didn't think would come that we invited just to be nice and now they are coming :scared1: If you can only have 23, don't invite more than say 15 couples or like 30-40 people.

You COULD do something like a -pre-rsvp, to get an idea of who would want to come/be able to make it. Unfortunately there's no good way...we are still working out our guest list since we have to re-invite everyone since our wedding changed from DCL to WDW 6 months later. Only send save the dates to people you are sure you can fit in the wedding guest list.

Someone else might have better advice on here that will comment I'm sure :wizard:

Destination weddings can have a surprising turn out - and there are other forums on here where brides had the same issue.

We did ours a little backwards, we got a general idea of how many people would come, then sent them out. It was mainly through word of mouth.

Regarding the 25 people, did your planner already confirm this? I was just reading that they stopped allowing this, even at the $500 charge.

I felt the same way about my invititations but there really is no reason to order that many save-the-dates. The 25 really will be fine - a family or a couple only get one so you don't even need one per person. One thing I had to keep reminding myself...alot of people take one look and throw it out. Don't go over budget for this.

To mirror all of the previous statements, I would highly suggest not sending out Save-The-Dates to anyone you do not plan to invite. I would be highly offended if I am told the save the date and then told later "oh sorry, you aren't invited now." If you send them all out and go over the 20 or 25, be prepared to switch to a Wishes wedding.

I think JJBeans has a good idea of asking who would be able to go before sending anything else. We basically did the same, only leaving one person up to chance.

This sounds pretty true...I really don't want them all to show up. I just wanted to send the save the dates but I see what you are saying...Thanks

This is the path that I wanted to take originally...sending out the pre-rsvps are a good idea, but the reason I didnt go with this idea was because we are so close to the date already

I checked my contract and it's in there my phone planning session is coming up so when I am on the phone I will double check just to verify...sometimes coming on the boards and saying something to other brides makes it easier...like telling someone to save the date...but then not inviting them:rolleyes1...yeah it sounds like a bad idea...

I have an escape wedding booked for Jan. 4/11 and sent out a total of 50 invitations. There was 2 types of invites, 1 being invited to the wedding and the 2nd being invited to the reception we are having at the house my parents rented. There will be 20 in the wedding and we actually did receive some yes' back but not that many. We are having a little gathering in the summer for those who are not able to attend.
