Ernesto Is Getting More Interesting...

I have a friend in the military and he got called up last night as a warning order to be ready to head to the gulf coast in a couple days. yikes.

This time of year we keep frozen stuff to a minimum as well as refrigerator foods. DW picked up a couple of Heater Meals that are self heating and not too bad tasting. She will be picking up some more.

I always get a little chuckle when individuals start getting upset with the projected path reports at 6 and 7 days out. Look at the latest reports as of this AM and those areas that 2 days ago had concerns are not even within the cone now. One of the projections even have Ernesto making a Charley maneuver and heading over our house.

Funniy thing is that last year we had a trip to FW when Wilma came through and now we will be back to FW later this week, maybe in time for Ernesto.

Good luck all.

I have never gotten upset seeing a hurricane brewing... but after Katrina i certainly have a right to feel upset, as does everyone else who has lived through a hurricane. Hopefully your trip to FW wont be messed up we go to Destin every year in September, and the last 3 yrs there has been something hitting us even if it was just the outer bands. Last year it was just in time for Rita.... we left Baton Rouge for some much need relaxation after a month of dealing with the Katrina aftermath and while Rita didnt hit Destin directly we got the outerbands and the water was AWFUL no swimming at all.

My brother lives in NOLA. He lives near Tulane, they didn't even get water in the house, but he was displaced for quite some time, and his company moved across the lake (forget the name of the town)..........they are still over there, so now he has a commute that he didn't have before.

My cousins live in Mississippi, but they're not on the coast.

Katrina still had a negative impact on all of them. The psychological climate of NOLA really changed, my brother said, and my cousins would just say, "It's so sad and so hard." I do hope it falls apart.

it is very sad and hard. We live in Mandeville (where EVERYONE moved and is now sssooo overcrowded) but my dad owns a business in New Orleans and all our family is in NO/Metairie/Kenner area. my parents come up to MS where I am in school almost every weekend b/c it is so sad down there they want to get away and can't wait to move in a couple years...

Anytime something enters the gulf, I get concerned. Not neccessarily for me, but that it means a direct hit to either a populated area of the states that may not have the infrastructure in place (New Orleans) or a poor country that doesn't have any money to repair the damage.

My IL's left on a 7 day Western yesterday. SIL seems to have the touch-this is her 3rd Disney Cruise, and the third where a hurricane was in the viscinity. That makes me think of all the cruise ships out there this time of year and worry for those on the ships.

My full freezer is due to my job. Seeing the current projected path, I have a feeling it's going to be a very slow business week for me. People don't want to fill those freezers.

It is far better to be prepared than upset about a storm that is 7 days out simply because one should be prepared from the beginning of hurricane season.

As a storm gets closer and the forecasting of the path becomes more accurate the level of reaction should coincide with that information.

Just as some might now feel that they can breathe a sigh of relief because of the current projections, I would remind them of Hurricane Charley. Mother Nature can and will do what she wants.

Since my use of the word chuckle offended some, sorry about that. For me there are things that are in my face now that upset me, not a spaghetti forecast 7 days out. Too many variables when it comes to hurricanes.

Glad for you, that there are far more things to be upset about. Just don't make light of those who are worried.

I know someone that lives there (they would NEVER have lived in "the bowl") and only suffered minor roof damage due to Katrina.

Nice area down there.

we love mandeville. we would have been fine except a tornado came down our street during katrina! :sad2: but, sadly, the city will never be the same as it was. The traffic is TERRIBLE, and it is just a sad place. my dad of course has to drive to NO every day to go where he owns his company, and he just hates it.....if it wasnt for having to pay for my wedding they would move tomorrow! they were both born and raised in metairie, then moved to mandeville, and are SICK and TIRED or having to box up/board up/evacuate 2-3 times a year just for a "scare" that never came, until last year! it just gets really old. anyone from the area knows what I am talking about! I can't tell you how many days of school I had to make up in jr. high/high school b/c they shut down the schools for an evacuation! :guilty:

Chuckle? Believe me, I would have said the same thing one year ago today, but Katrina has forever silenced my chuckles. We thought hurricanes were annoying and disruptive, but we were always okay. We had to repair and clean up, wait for our electricity to come back on, and make up some school days. We will never again take such a light attitude!

Oh and, by the way, look up (Google) Hurricane Elena 1985 for a real scream.
Amen, after shletering at keesler w/Katrina, I pay close attention even from here in Texas. I don't want this thing hitting anyone.
My prayers go out to whoever is in the path of this storm. Stay safe!!

Well, I'm sure you didn't mind it too much being out of school ;)

But, congrats on your upcoming wedding!

This map tends to update itself as the NWS puts out updates. It is nice to have on threads like this.

Praying it turns out to the Atlantic and doesn't cause harm!

Hmmmm, it still appears to be headed right over my house. I going to wait until tomorrow afternoon/evening to see what this storm does. If Ernie comes off Cuba and the projected path has not changed, then I will make the necessary preparations.

Seeing as we only live a few miles in from Tampa Bay I am praying it does not head this way!!! Hopefully it will turn and miss us. Southern4sure, crossing our fingers together!

Forget crossing our fingers....want a hug?

Looks like Hurricane Ernesto may be about to be downgraded to Tropical Storm Ernesto at least temporarily.

Southern where are you? We are in Sarasota.

I live in Pasco county just over the county line in Land O Lakes.

We are in Tarpon Springs. I pray it does not cross here. We are only 1-2 miles from the Gulf.

The millibar pressure is up there (1002) and I was hoping to hear that they were considering it a TS. Cuba should continue to weaken it as well if it maintains that direction.

Factoid of the day: Wilma had the lowest Atlantic Hurricane millibar pressure: 882 :scared1:
