Ermergerd! Tonga Toast!

Soooo, yeah. I need to eat this delicious delicacy. It is written. But I noticed you can also get it at Captain Cooks as well as Kona Cafe.

We have an ADR at Kona, currently, but we're paying OOP and money's a bit tight. If I can get the same gustatory experience from Captain Cook's (theming and service doesn't matter. This tantalizing toast must touch my lips) then I'm willing to forgo my ADR. There is an astounding difference in price, and a slice of bacon or sausage isn't important. I'll be snacking all that day in the World Showcase.

TL;DR---is the Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks for $5 a plate the same as Kona's for $13?

The Toast itself is the same. Large, stuffed with bananas, fried, covered in cinnamon sugar.

The one at Captain's stops there.

The one at Kona is a tiny bit larger (!) and comes with a strawberry coulis/sauce and the aforementioned bacon/sausage.

To me, while I am notorious for pinching pennies at WDW, the one at Kona is far superior. I think it's the sauce. And maybe just a teeny bit of pscho...logy on my part.

The tonga toast at Captain Cook's does not come with the strawberry sauce.

They taste the same to me, I dont like the strawberry compote anyway, its kinda sour.. If that doesnt matter to you, my suggestion is Capt Cooks..

Thanks guys! I'm not too crazy about the strawberry sauce (I just like syrup) so I don't think I'll be really missing out. Probably gonna go to captain cooks and save a few dollars! I'm glad you guys have such vast WDW eating experience!

There was a thread a couple of days ago where a poster mentioned that the toast part of the Captain Cook's Tonga Toast was actually not as fresh or tasty as Kona. But this may just have been a coincidence that day.

Anywhere is a hit or miss the two times we have had it it was fresh

We had the TT at Capt Cook's on July 12. It was just as tasty and fresh as Kona's version. It also came with a choice of bacon or sausage, if you wanted it. There is no strawberry sauce, but the sauce is an option with the Mickey waffle. I'm wondering if you couldn't purchase the sauce as a side.
