Day 2, Sunday, December 7, 2003
Players:
Me
DH
Courtney (DD, 7 years)
Nicholas (DS, 14 months)
We were smarter today: gloves for everyone and a hat with earflaps for Nicholas. It is cold again this morning. Nicholas has never worn gloves or earflaps before. He does not like either one. He is a thumbsucker and the gloves add a barrier. He won't keep the gloves or the hat on- oh, well, we tried to be good parents.
On to the MK- my favorite park. There are a lot of characters around City Hall and after a plethora of pictures and autographs, we head to Fantasyland. Nicholas fell asleep in the stroller so DH waited with him while I took DD on Peter Pan (twice per her request). We both loved this ride, as always
Boy, does time fly at WDW- it was already time for our PS at CP.
We only waited a few minutes at CP for our name to be called- a lot shorter wait than usual. This is usually my favorite meal at WDW and it was as great as ever. I could eat eggs, pancakes, French toast, and their potatoes every day. Good thing I can't or else I would weigh 6790 pounds approximately. We all enjoyed it very much. The kids ate very well- Courtney is the pickiest eater on the planet- so I was glad.
After that, we went back to Fantasyland for Pooh, Peter Pan (again), and IASW. Courtney has always been afraid of the strangest things (as you will read in later trip reports if you stick around for the rest of them), so she had never been on Snow White. Courtney decided she would ride it with me so I could check it out and see if it seemed too scary for DS (I had not ridden it since pre-children days, so I needed a refresher). DD and I both deemed it okay so the four of us rode it together next. We headed over to HM and POC (my favorites) and then decided we better go back to the hotel for a nap for DS.
DH and I worked out an agreement that during our afternoon nap breaks, we would alternate who stayed in the room and who got to do whatever they wanted. I told DH that he could have the first day. He contemplated going to MGM and us meeting him there, but decided that he and DD would just explore AKL. I sat on the balcony with soda in my refillable mug and called my mom to check in with her. Ah, this is the life- sitting on my balcony and relaxing while watching wild animals. DH and DD came back and he said that he was done exploring and I could go look around, so DD and I went to the gift shop- we're girls, what else would we do? DD had some of her own money burning a hole in her pocket so she selected the bag of rocks (whereas DH and I like to call them as paranoid parents of a small child- "bag-o'-choking-hazards"). DD and I then went to the outside savannah viewing areas.
We let DS sleep for two hours and then decided it was time to wake up and head to MGM. This is DH's favorite park and he was raring to go. We got there about 3:00. DH got a FP for RNR and rode TOT (by himself) while me and the kids ran to Star Tours to get a FP for me and DD. The kids and I waited in the TOT giftshop for DH. While we were waiting, DD asked me if I was worried that DH would fall in love with someone else while he was gone?!? I asked her if she knew something that I didn't and she said no. She just thought there might be someone really cute on the ride, I guess.
We met back up and decided to go to Starring Rolls for Tollhouse cookies. Just the four of us- no additional girlfriend for DH. I had planned on us having a snack at Sci-Fi, but decided to change our plans, as we got here later than I had planned and we were going to the bonfire at AKL in a few hours. DH went to use his FP for RNR while I stayed feeding DS his cookie- he is a big ole boy and ate the whole thing. We met back up and went to Star Tours- DH stayed with DS and checked out the Star Wars items while DD and I rode. DH is not real big on simulators, but loves coasters, while I am the opposite- opposites attract, huh?
We hated to leave, but we were out of time. Plus I was thinking that the bonfire was at 6:00- had I looked at my itinerary again, I would have seen that it was at 6:30. Oh, well! We waited outside for the bonfire to start. We waited so long that DS was tired of just sitting there by the time it was story time. We thought it was kind of fun, but trying to entertain DS made us a little stressed so we probably didn't enjoy it as much as we would have if he were either younger or older. DH was not overly impressed and DD was bored- it was okay once, but no plans to do it again anytime in the near future.
Then we had a half hour before our PS at Boma. We went to see if we could check in early, but they were PACKED. Too much time to wait around and too little time to run back to the room. Nicholas was tired of being held and wanted to crawl around (will he ever learn to walk), but there was no good place for him to crawl (recurring theme). We were seated exactly on time. None of us were that impressed by the food, well, except Nicholas. I enjoyed the pork and the "potatoes with afritude" were okay. DH liked the prime rib and also thought the potatoes were okay. Dessert was good. I know a lot of people rave about this restaurant, but we weren't that impressed (not our taste). And it was the most expensive meal of our trip, I think. Different strokes.... (Sidenote, last trip the most expensive meal of our trip was also our least favorite- Rose and Crown, which I know a lot of people love, too).
After dinner, back up to our room. This was the earliest bedtime we had since we were not at a park until 9:00 or later. Nicholas was happy to crawl around while we got ready for bed. After his bath, we laid him down and watched Monsters, Inc (on the bedtime stories channel). After that, we went to sleep with visions of AK roaring in our heads.
Coming up...
AK, Donald's Breakfastasaurus, and then back to Epcot
