Episode II - Disney World Honeymoon - Ch.11 posted 6/16

To answer your question, at the beginning of the gangster scene on the Great Movie ride, there is a torn movie poster to the left of the vehicle, and underneath you can see Mickey's shoe, probably part of a Mickey poster underneath. I read about it, as usual, so that's the only way I knew.

On with the show....

Chapter 9 - Last Full Day, And Full It Was

As with most nights, we got a good night's sleep Thursday night and after about 9 hours worth, we both decided it was time to get up and get a move on. Once again I made my way down to the bakery and got us a muffin to split while Danielle got ready. And as usual, we made our way to the bus stop and were headed back to the Magic Kingdom once more. Unfortunately there was no dedicated bus service that morning, and so we had to make a few stops first. Not a big deal though and we made it there with plenty of morning left.

First up was Peter's Pan's Flight since we had missed it the day before. Of course, the line was already pretty long, so we opted for fastpasses instead, and then made our way towards Tomorrowland. Instead of going straight there though, we walked over to Toontown since it had been years upon years since I had stepped foot inside. Plus I was convinced some of the rarer characters might be out and about there. We made it all the way to Mickey's house and I didn't see anything to get too excited about unfortunately, so we then turned and headed towards Tomorrowland taking the long quiet path behind the Speedway. Not walking past Mickey's house will come into play later....

Once we made it back to the future (great scott!) we went on Buzz a 2nd time so that I could avenge my previous defeat. It broke down right after we had finished though and everyone's scores were erased, but not before I saw that I had beaten my wife. At Buzz, that is. I felt bad for those on board when the ride broke, but since it's a pretty quick line, it wouldn't be hard to go again I imagine. Next up was the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Wedway, Peoplemover, whatever. No one was riding this, so we had a car all to ourselves. We didn't make out or anything though, we just sat, relaxed, and enjoyed the views. "Now approaching.....", that guy cracks me up.

After we got off that, the line for Buzz still wasn't bad and it was time for new fastpasses. I rushed over to Space Mountain and got a few, then met back with Danielle in front of Buzz to go on a 3rd time (probably few compared to some). Unfortunately, the 3rd time was not the charm and our scores were straight up awful. I'm not even sure how describe just how awful they were, but let's just say if I was standing 5 feet from a movie screen and I had a gun, I'd miss if I tried to shoot it. I won, but it was a hollow victory based on both our scores (at least that's what I'll be saying to Danielle).

We decided at that point that the experience probably meant we shouldn't go on that ride again. The Carousel of Progress was right there, so we made our way in that direction. On the way we saw Buzz Lightyear himself and decided to say hello and tell him how much we enjoyed his ride. And after I took Danielle's picture with him, it was time for our fastpasses at Space Mountain. Score! Sorry Carousel, maybe next time. I do feel bad about missing it, but it'll survive. Right?

The fastpass line for Space Mtn. was a lot better than standby, but didn't seem to be that much better. We still waited a good 15-20 minutes to get on, but did get to bypass about 10 people when they asked for a party of 2. And it was doubly nice cause a group of teenage girls were behind us in line and one of them felt the need to keep walking into me when the line moved. I'm taken, see the ring!

After that, it was time to get out of Tomorrowland. Not ready to go back to Todayland though, we headed back to Fantasyland instead to use our Peter Pan fastpasses. The line was even longer at that point, so bypassing stand-by was a pretty good feeling. The ride was okay, as usual. I imagine I'll have a different take on it once I bring my kids there. It must be something, cause it was the first ride my nieces asked me about when I saw them. Speaking of which, hello girls (since I'm pretty sure your parents are reading this).

It was before lunch time at that point, but we were both sort of hungry. Rather than get a snack though and a later lunch, we decided just to have lunch right then instead. Pinocchio Village Haus was right there, but I had a feeling that Columbia Harbour House might work out better. And boy was I right, we made it just before the lunch rush. Danielle got chicken strips and I got an Anchors Aweigh sandwich (tuna sandwich). We went upstairs to eat and seemingly had the place all to ourselves. That area is just great. Very quiet, very peaceful, a nice place to take a break and forget that there are thousands of other people all around you.

When I was done (I usually finish my meals quickly), I walked over to Big Thunder Mountain to get fastpasses, then went back to collect Danielle. We took our time going back that way and went on Splash Mountain first, since the line wasn't as bad. One last time of singing along, looking for a few more hidden mickeys (we did find a fish-bobber one) and enjoying my favorite ride in the park. Then it was off to Big Thunder Mtn once more and again, we were glad to have fast-passed it.

It was then time to say goodbye to the Magic Kingdom, but first I decided to buy a Splash Mountain glass. It's like I just can't not buy some piece of Splash Mountain merchandise (last time I bought a little wind-up toy). Instead of walking back through Main St. though, we decided to take the train all the way around. The wait wasn't long and after a little boy got to yell those famous words, "all aboard!", we were off.

The first stop was Toontown, and as we approached the station I looked off to the side and noticed a few characters. "Wow, it's Max" (who we hadn't seen ever before). "Hey, it's Big Al" (same thing). "HOLY CRAP, it's Launchpad McQuack!" I'm not sure I've ever seen Danielle as excited as she was at this point. She quickly said "we gotta get off here!" and when we did, moved quickly to the exit and to their location. Luckily no kids got in her way, or else there could have been trouble. Ha ha.

The one area we didn't look at while walking through Toontown before, now had Launchpad, Big Al, Max, Prince John, the Sherriff of Nottingham, a penguin from Mary Poppins, Gideon, and even Brer Bear. It was awesome. When we arrived the CM in the area announced they'd be leaving for the parade shortly, so we made efficient work of getting our pictures with them. The nice thing about most of them being rare characters, or at least rare to us, was that they didn't draw as big crowds either, so we were to able to get pics of all the ones we wanted pretty easily.

At that point we either floated to the entrance or the train took us back, I can't remember which. It was pretty exciting for us to see all those characters at once, so we were on cloud 9 for a bit. At the Main St. train station, we looked for various pieces of luggage we had heard were lying around. Sadly, I don't think we saw anything. Maybe we looked in the wrong place or maybe they took it down, but we had heard there were various items from Disney movies. Oh well.

Rather than take the bus back to the Boardwalk, we decided for one last monorail voyage to Epcot, which we would then walk through. I also heard about a Disney Visa card meet-and-greet place in Epcot that I wanted to check out. The monorail ride was as exciting as ever and once in Epcot, we walked all over the Innoventions area looking for this meet-and-greet. Finally I stopped and asked directions (more than once even) and we found where it was. The sign for it wasn't very big, and if you were walking past it you'd think it was just a black curtain. But behind that black curtain was a room where we found Mickey and Pluto hanging out with a photopass guy. We got a few pictures taken with them, said our thank yous, and then headed back to the hotel.

Not going to the Photopass claiming store right then and there would prove to be a huge mistake. How? Well, we'll get into that in Chaper 10.

Chapter 10 - All I Said Was Canadian Beer Sucked?

We made it back to the hotel pretty easily and decided to relax one final time by the pool. This was it, there would be no more time to just sit and do nothing after this, so we had to get our fill. I got a little antsy in the pantsy though and came pretty close to going to a DVC open house that was being held at the Boardwalk Villas at 6:00 pm that night. Better judgement kicked in though, and rather than go there knowing we wouldn't have money to invest any time soon, I opted to sit back and relax some more instead. Finally around 6:30 we got a move on and got ready for dinner.

One thing Danielle had wanted to do all week was get a caricature done of the two of us, and as it happened we had put it off all week long until finally Friday night. The gentleman was setting up just as we made it out to the boardwalk and so we sat right down and he went to work. I wasn't 100% sold on getting one done, so the only demand I made was that it be of us going on Splash Mountain. When the guy said he could hook that up for us, it was a lock and I sat down first. He drew and drew and drew some more while Danielle and some random people stopped by to watch. He was nice too, a student at Central Florida University.

After I was all done Danielle sat down for her rendering. We realized she would need her glasses though since she wears them 95% of the time, so I ran back to the room while he continued to draw. That worked out well since the jim beam & coke I had been drinking was filling up my bladder like a faucet fills up a water balloon. What? Nevermind.

The guy claimed to have not been on Splash Mountain in a few years though, so I provided him with a visual aid using our digital camera. He had a good 5-10 pictures to choose from, so it wasn't hard. A short time later he was done and our masterpiece was complete. He put it in a tube and we took it back to the room to drop off along with Danielle's glasses. And then it was time for dinner. Literally. Our reservations were for 7:50 and it was 7:45. Uh oh, time to motor.

We walked to Epcot at a hurried pace and beat out a boat docking to get in line at the International Gateway. They were giving out bracelets for the Extra magic hours that night, but the line was a little longer that we could stand to wait and we had a reservation to make. Oh yeah, and where were we eating? Why, Le Cellier of course. After the high of Narcoossee's early on in the week, I figured a nice meal at Le Cellier would be a nice bookend to the trip, eating-wise.

We waited about 10 minutes I think, during which time Danielle took time to snap some photos of the gardens and flowers. It seemed to me like she was gone for a year and I was super nervous they would call our name while she was away, but luckily they did not until after she got back. They showed us to our table for 2, which actually looked like a table for 6 separted into 3. That was my only legitimate complaint about the restaurant, there was literally 1 foot or maybe 18 inches of space between our table and the next one which was also 2 people. And on their other side, another 12-18" before the next table of 2. I felt like we were eating with them. Not that they weren't nice people, we didn't really talk, but if you go to an intimate setting like Le Cellier for dinner, I would have preferred to feel a little more intimate.

Nevertheless, the meal was excellent. For appetizer I had the cheddar cheese soup after the rave reviews from the Disboards and Danielle had the Asian shrimp cocktail. The soup was only good (I'm not a big soup guy, so I take most of the blame for that). For our entrees we decided it was a great night for filets. I got the regular 7 oz filet and Danielle had the mushroom filet. Both were extremely good and I loved the cream cheese mashed potatoes. With dinner I had a glass of Labatt's too, while Danielle went with pinot grigio. The Labatt's was fine, just so you don't think this chapter's title was how I really felt. (the title of this chapter is just a line from the movie "Canadian Bacon", that's all).

During our main course, Illuminations had started so I stepped out to catch a few minutes of it. I didn't want to stand outside forever though so I only saw part of it. Again, it's been years upon years since I last saw it, so next time we go back I may have to insist we see it then in its entirety.

Once we were done with our meals, as was our privelage from the dining plan, it was time for dessert. No ifs, ands or buts about it, I was having the creme brulee. This is one of my favorite desserts and I'd been looking forward to it all week. Danielle ordered the same and when it came I went to town. That stuff was good. I wasn't the biggest fan of the maple sugar taste, but that's just a matter of preference. It was still really good, and I'd probably get it again anyway.

Finally our meal was at an end and it was time for extra magic hours at Epcot, open until midnight. It was rather cool out though as Thursday's rain had ushered in some perfect daytime no-humidity weather. But it was also cooler than the first few days, which mean the night time was especially brisk. We went to Mouse Gear to see about buying Danielle a long-sleeved shirt or sweatshirt, but couldn't find any particularly appealing. Rather than hit up any rides though, we headed to the Photo center near Spaceship earth to get our free Disney visa card 5"x7" picture. Sweet! They were giving out wristbands nearby, so first we got those, then went to the store.

There was a line of about 10 people, but there were 4 counters open so I figured it would move quickly. Boy I couldn't have been more wrong. I didn't realize what all goes on with Disney photopass, cause we hadn't really used it that much. If we didn't have a digital camera I'm sure we would have used it more, but oh well. Now we were stuck behind 10 people (plus the four at the counters already) who had picture after picture to go through, edit, select and do whatever else too before the line could move again. Needless to say, never again will I be making this mistake. After about a full hour, we finally had a our free 5x7 of us, Pluto and Mickey and were out the door. All that for a free 5x7. Talk about stubborn.....

Danielle was a trooper, cause at that point I knew she was ready for bed. She stuck with it though and we had a little more fun left in us. First up was a stop at the Character connection. It was open late for the extra magic hours and inside we got pictures of Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Chip & Dale. I told Chip & Dale I was a big fan of theirs from their Rescue Rangers days and Dale applauded that, so that was cool.

Out the door, we were both still a little full, so fast rides were not on our priority list and instead we made one more visit to the Journey into imagination. We spotted a hidden mickey in the sight room which was cool and I got a picture of the door that says "Dean Finder". Rumors of Dreamfinder returning have surfaced lately, but I'm not holding my breath.

In the Image works store we looked around and played with the picture-taker thingy. I had seen the Imagineer's guide to Epcot (which I didn't think was out yet) a few days before but didn't see it this time. I asked an employee who asked the manager, who called a few other stores and finally told me they had them at the International Gateway store. Sweet. Meanwhile I bought a Figment ringer shirt (which I'm proud to admit I wore in public just last week) and a mini-Figment magnetic figure that now resides on our fridge.

The only other thing I really wanted to do was ride Maelstrom, which was open for the extra magic hours and we had missed a few days before. We walked right on and were soon on our way through the vondervul lands of norvay. Good times. One funny thing too was at the end the CM got on the mic to go through his "remain seated..." announcement and I looked around and said to him "you don't need the mic, we can hear you just fine". He may have thought I was being a stupid jerk, but I was just trying to be funny. Oh well.

I promised Danielle one more beer for humoring me by going on Maelstrom and we then slowly made our way around the world and back to the International Gateway to leave. I stopped in the store to see about the book and sure enough they had it in stock. Sweet! While purchasing it the girl told me she didn't usually work there and that she normally works at Blizzard beach. Being friendly I asked how that was and she said it was good but that she'd prefer to be a lifeguard but that she got kicked out of the class for being late one day. A few more minutes and I'm pretty sure she would have told me her life history, so I said thank you and left. Not that I have any problems talking to CMs, in fact I enjoy it, but this wasn't a CM-guest conversation, this was a person-person conversation that could have gone on awhile and I was ready for bed.

Back it the room we were sad cause our last night in Disney was at an end. And when we woke up we'd have to start packing up our collective things and fly back to Long Island. Boooooo. Still, we needed to sleep, so sleep we did.

Next up was one last visit to MGM, then goodbye to the World. This weekend's pretty full though, so tune back in Monday for one more chapter, then perhaps an epilogue to follow. Thanks for putting up with my long-windedness, again.

I thought about titling this Chapeter "Bankruptcy" cause it seemed like a good joke, but I spared you the humor. Congrats.

Hey, so I'm back after a nice week off from trip-report-writing. Truth be told, I just want to make the fun time last and last, so I sort of dragged my heels toward the end. Sorry about that, but if you made it this far and are now awaiting the conclusion of the trip, give yourself a pat on the back cause here it is.

Chapter 11 - Leavetakings

Check-out was set for 11:00 so we set our alarm for 9:00 figuring that would give us plenty of time. As it turns out, we both woke up around 8:00 and started doing bits of clean-up here and there and then began packing shortly thereafter. And good thing we did, cause by 10:45 we were still filling up our luggage with things. First thing that morning though came the unwelcome guest. The thing everyone hates to see on the last day of their vacation: the bill. On it was everything we had charged to the room and after reviewing it line by line, it all made sense. In the grand scheme of things we didn't pay THAT much for stuff, but it's still not something we looked forward to seeing. Oh well.

As we were packing up stuff I noticed something we had gotten with our magical express info. It was a coupon of some sort good for 1 free pin. While Danielle took a shower I ran down to the General store and made my inquiry. Sure enough, bam, we got a free pin (a Disney cruise line bus). Score!

I put the call in to bell services close to 11:00 and then we waited in our now barren-looking room for them to arrive. They showed up, took our things and we were on our way to MGM for the day. Goodbye room!

We went in to MGM with no big plan but a general idea of the few things we wanted to do and what time we needed to leave. The bus was coming at 4:15 so we set 3:45 as the "must be out of MGM" time to allow us plenty of time to make it back and get our bags. So that gave us about 4 more hours in the park and then the official sadness could begin.

As usual we headed down Sunset Blvd and I got a fastpass for Tower of Terror (which turned out to be unnecessary). We then hustled over to Millionaire to see that and pretty much walked right in. The first player was an older guy, probably mid-50s with a New England accent. He messed up on the 6th or 7th question though and a new player was selected. I was #5 at one point, but when the new player was selected, I had dropped out of the top 10. D'oh! The woman that took the seat was probably in her late-40s and said she was all by herself that day while her family was at the Magic Kingdom. She then proceeded to get right answer after right answer until she made it all the way to the 1,000,000 point question which was "Which film was originally titled 'Watch the Skies'?" I think she made an educated guess and got it right, winning the cruise. Pretty wild stuff. As much as I wanted to be in the hot seat, if I couldn't be I was glad to see someone win the cruise. Danielle was in the top 10 at some point too, but I can't remember exactly when. It may have even been at the end. Oh, and the answer to the question was "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind".

After that we split ways, Danielle went off to shop and I went off to ride the Tower of Terror. The wait was non-existant for both fast pass and non-fastpass and soon enough I was on my way up the elevator. Good times on that ride, it makes me a little nervous each time but I'm always amazed at how much of a high-quality ride it is.

We met back up and made our way over to Muppetvision 3d, which we had skipped the other night. On the way we noticed Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc. getting pictures taken, so we stopped for a quick photo-op. Nice guys.

The Muppets are yet another favorite thing of mine, so I could probably watch this show 100 times in a row and not get bored. And upon entering, I even got to see that there was key under the mat just as the sign said. We only got to see about 5 minutes of the pre-show, but it was enough time to look around the room some and finally noice the net full of jello (A-net Full-of-jello) which I had also read about on the Disboards, thank you very much.

At that point it was just about lunch time, so we decided to eat and use the last 2 counter service credits on our meal plan. Since we were in the area, I decided to get a chicken caesar wrap from the Flatbread Grill, as well as a Vanilla Panna Cotta for dessert. I wasn't really sure what a panna cotta was, but I was feeling adventurous.

Danielle was in the mood for a burger, so we went to the ABC commissary to actually sit down and eat. There, she got a cheeseburger and fries with a chocolate mousse for dessert. Yum! While she was finishing her meal I went to the Indiana Jones stunt show to get fastpasses for our scrapbook. Sadly they weren't giving any out. Next time, Indy, next time.

We then took the long way back around the park and ended up on Mickey Ave where we decided to see the Narnia exhibit. I was pretty excited to see what stuff that had put in from the movie, but was disappointed upon entering. Everything seemed pretty cool at first, then they showed a long preview of the movie which wasn't SO bad (even though I'd already seen it), and then that was it. I think there were maybe 4 or 5 costumes and a few props from the movie, but that was it. I'm glad we didn't wait but so long for it, but yeah, now I know what I can avoid next time I'm there (assuming it's still there).

One Man's Dream was right next door, so we stopped in to see that. There are a lot of cool things in there, but sadly we didn't have enough time to check out the movie. Just add it to the list of "next time" things I suppose. We walked in the back way to the Animation area and as we walked in we noticed a few characters making there way out for pictures. Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh was one we hadn't seen before, so Danielle got her picture with him. Baloo was out by himself too, so Danielle got her picture with him. At first they shared a big hug which I wish I had gotten the picture of, but then Baloo did the standard character pose and that was the picture I got. D'oh! Again, I had wanted to learn to draw a character in this area, but we had just missed the beginning of it and thus had to wait. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time, so we began to make our way towards the front.

First we went to pick up a few things Danielle had found while shopping. I also got a Jedi mickey pin I had seen previously. Oh, and that Disney cruise line bus pin I got? I traded that for a Rockin' Rollercoast fast pass pin. Sweet!

A little while later and we were walking back to the Boardwalk. One last walk by the pool. One last look at our room which at that point may have already been inhabited by someone else. The jerks! Ha! And one last chance to use up our snack credits. I ran to the sweets store on the Boardwalk and asked what I could use them for. She mentioned sugar cookies shaped in Mickey's head and I was sold. I think we somehow made out on snack credits, cause I got 4 cookies but don't think I had 4 credits left. Oh well, no complaints here!

I met back up with Danielle at the entrance and we had our bags all together. All that was left to do was wait for that stupid bus to take us back to the stupid airport so we could fly back to stupid New York. Boooooo.

The bus ride to the airport was alright. They showed the "goodbye to Disney World" video, encouraging us to come back soon. Don't worry Disney, we will. Check in to our flight went fine too, except that we were in the C group which I knew would hurt our chances of sitting together severely. D'oh! We did make one more stop at the Disney store though and purchased a few things for people at home. And fortunately we even spent enough to qualify for another free pin. Sweet again!

And sure enough, on board the plane we sat 1 row apart cause there were no 2-seats together left. I sat the entire flight and read the Epcot imagineer's guide and Danielle watched most of Pirates of the Caribbean on the dvd player. I also managed to get a free beer thanks to the flight attendant forgetting to ask me for my money. Sure I could have said something to her about not charging me, but after sitting in between 2 ladies that knew each other and wanted to talk to each other, but not sit next to one another, I thought I had earned it.

The funniest part of the flight was we were wearing our "Bride" and "Groom" t-shirts again that day and at the end of the flight someone noticed it and asked "oh, are you going to Long Island for your honeymoon?" Ha! Yeah, we left Orlando, FL to go to Long Island for a honeymoon. That's a good one. Not that I have anything against LI, but honeymoon destination is not at the top of its attributes list. At least I don't think so.

So that was it, our trip to Disney. I will most likely do an epilogue though, so I won't say goodbye just yet. And some day I will figure out how to add pictures. Perhaps the same day I do the epilogue.

But anyway, there you go.

I have really enjoyed your trip report! You really have a way with words, and your new bride seems to have caught a very nice guy!

The line about someone asking you if you are going to Long Island for your honeymoon had me in stitches. LOL

Thanks for posting!
