Epipen and flying

this will be my first flight with my son and his epi pen. Will we have any issues going through security with it and the individual packets of benadryl? I have carried the same pen for several months and it no longer has the box (with the script part) will I need it?

Thanks for your help. We normally drive so flying is all new for us.

We take Epilen, liquid Epilepsy treatment, in small glass bottles. We always take a covering Doctor's note and a prescription form also.
Never had any problems.

Just make sure that any medication including the epi pens are in their own clear bag in the bin. I use a gallon sized ziploc for liquid medications and epi pens including a full bottle of liquid zyrtec. Remember that medications are not subject to the 3.4 oz limit as long as they're in their original bottles and declared as medication. This is why I keep my meds separate from the regular 3-1-1 bag; so the TSA agent can clearly see them.

I carry the double Epipen and two asthma inhalers (daily and rescue) and have never had a problem, even though I don't carry any of them in a plastic bag. It's probably not a bad idea, but it hasn't been a problem for me and I've flown at least 10 round-trips this year, including one international trip.

If you go to the pharmacy that filled the Epi, they will print you a new label that you can put on the tube. In most cases you will not need it, but better safe then sorry. The last time we flew, the TSA was checking everything for the RX label. For our asthma inhalers we bring a note from teh doctor that is printed on a letter head.

No problems, we sail through security. We usually carry four Epipen Jr's, benadryl, inhalers, nebulizer, liquid medication capsules for the nebulizer and have no problems. Just remeber to take it all out of your carryon and put in in a bin.

I only had a problem once- in St. Lucia. They asked a lot of questions. You should be fine here. After that (though I think I did it then too) I disclosed to the screeners BEFORE I sent it through, that there was an epipen in the bin, so they didn't think twice about a needle going through.

ditto never had a problem just get pharmacy to reprint label and you can ask dr office for a copy of prescriptions. I carry all scripts in their own plastic ziplock bag.

I never carry them in the box or with a prescription. I just stick 2 in my purse and the rest in my medicine bag with everything else. I've never had a problem.

Also, I would advise you to make sure you take extras with you. Since mine is for a peanut allergy, I always have spares with me because if I need to use it on the plane, one wont be enough.

If you've been carrying the same epi-pen around in a bag, in the car, etc, for months, check with your pharmacy/doctor to make sure it is still potent to use. Exposure to heat and light can denature the medication and make it useless.

It would be horrible to get on a plane, have an emergency situation, and have an ineffective epipen. It would also be better to take a fresh set with you to WDW - the heat and light down there is pretty intense!

In addition to spare Epi's, I carry a letter from our allergist explaining that we need to have these meds with us all the time. I have been asked, more than once, to produce this letter in the Orlando International Airport.

I've flown bunches of times with epipen and last trip 2 huge boxes of prefilled syringes of another med. They've never been remotely interested. I do carry the printout I get from our mail order pharmacy since it has a list of all my meds and a description of each med. I do always carry that or a handwritten rx since the epi doesn't have a label. Takes the dr 2 seconds to write it and I just keep
it in the makeup case I keep the epi and benadryl in in my purse.

I was just about to post something similar to this. I need an injectible medication (comes pre-filled in a syringe with a needle) every 2 weeks. During our time at Disney, I'll need to do an injection. As the medication costs over a thousand dollars per dose, I refuse to pack it in carryon. However, it also needs to be refrigerated. Will there be a problem with the ice pack at security?

We've taken ice-packs in a mini-lunch cooler to keep medicine cool. I always take it out, and just tell them what it is, and it has never been a problem.

My husband keeps his epi-pen in his laptop bag.

With 2 little ones, a stroller, medicines, night-night blankets, etc.... it seems like security is more than happy to get us through the line and out of their hair

I was just diagnosed with diabetes this past week. My doctor wanted to jumpstart a weight loss program and also wanted to try to stabilize my blood sugar. She gave me a Victoza pen that says 'Sample 1 Pen Not for Resale' on the box. Obviously it doesn't have a Rx label. On the print out they give you it has the date, the name of the office, primary physician's name, and a list of my current medications, with the Victoza listed as a new medication. Will I have a problem taking this or the needles for it through security, (along with a couple of those hard ice pack Blue Ice Freezer thingies).

My last trip (just about ten days ago) I was carrying four insulin or Byetta pens, an insulin vial, about 30 pen needles, ten syringes and lancets for blood sugar testing. I also had two seven day pill holders, a large one for morning pills and a smaller one for evening pills. The insulin and Byetta were in two separate Frio packs. As usual, I had no problems at all with security on any flight. (And I have so far this year had five airline round trips.)

My experience is pretty much the same as Cheshire Figment's. I carry Byetta in a frio pack (in use pen), a spare Byetta in a cooler with ice packs, my liquid ulcer medication goes in the same cooler. I am no longer doing insulin so I don't have that to deal with any more. But I do have a bunch of pen needles for the Byetta and my lancets. I also am up to two seven day pill holders!

The only medication I carry in the original pharmacy container is my narcotics. I've never been questioned about them but it makes me feel better that they have lables. This trip I had Percocet because I am recovering from a couple of surgeries for my cancer and they weren't even given a second glance.

I've carried this mass of medications through the Orlando airport at least three times this year with no problem.
