Epic Mickey?

DH picked up our pre-order at Best Buy this morning. He was able to get the strategy guide and the paintbrush for $10 off each of the items. He said there were only 2 paintbrushes left after he bought his. Seems they're really popular.

The game was supposed to mave a good and evil (or not so good) version of Mickey depending on what you do in the game (kinda like the Fable games) where Mickey's appearance changes depending on whether you become good or evil. I think that was scrapped for the final release though. Anyway, I think this is what he was going to look like if he went the evil route:

Playing my way though this game and im in the europe part of the boat ride (small world?) Am i the only one finding it easy? the camra makes things difficult but the game itself, so far is pretty easy.

i'm not much of a gamer.. but i had to give up in the jungle cruise/small world bit.

but i was talking a bit to the developers today and they gave me some tips about how to go about doing it in an easier way (evidently there's an upper level that makes traveling easier), so gotta go try that out.

i absolutely do find the camera awkward though. not just the automatic one, but panning around too.

Thinking of going to pick it up tomorrow before work. This is one of those games where I just don't want to wait till Christmas for. I've been keeping tabs since the first creepy pieces of artwork showed up.

Yeah I saw on IGN and gametrailers that they gave it a good review but the camera controls are a bit out there, but still super excited to play it. I love the idea of whatever you do will affect the outcome of the game. They say there are multiple endings.

DS 6 has been playing it. he's pretty good at that kind of stuff. DD was "advising" him on it. it is rated E.

I feel the same way about the camera angles. I had to try and make the same jump 10 times before I actually landed where I needed to go. All because I couldnt position the camera the way I needed to see. That being said, The game is AWESOME!! Anyone who enjoys role-playing games and is a Disney fan will LOVE this game! Plenty to do and explore. I'm really enjoying it!!

I bought our copy today... put it away for the holidays.

The thing I found odd however, it is only a 1 player game.

Most new games have at least a 2 player mode, if not 4.

And if it takes hours to get through the first bit as reported by Brad, then the kids are slowed down watching the others play and waiting for there turn just to start right back at the beginning.

I just played for a bit. I got into the jungle cruise area but then had to stop to watch the online review for my final exam on Thursday (stupid school work is getting in the way of my GAME!! lol)

It is pretty awesome. I diddn't find the camera too bad once I got a bit used to it but I have been playing games for years and if you have ever played some of the early tomb raiders (or in my case attempted to play...) the camera controls really aren't bad.

As for it being tough I haven't found it difficult so far at all. There is one place where I'm having issues and doing stuff over and over tying to get it right but that is just me trying to get all the treasure chests... you don't HAVE to do it. The areas that you have to do in order to get though are really easy. I assume that will get harder though most games are easy at the beginning.

I thought it would be like a combo of Super Mario Sunshine and Kingdom Hearts, two of my family's all time favorite games. And it is. So I'm happy. And the Disneyland tie-ins are just a bonus! I am still waiting, though, for my turn to touch the controller. Watching the kids & dh play. I do wish it was two player where p2 can help p1 play like Mario Galaxy.

We just brought this home a couple of hours ago and so far, it's fantastic! We're loving it, but we definitely see where the camera complaints come in. Still, at least a 9/10 for our initial review! :thumbsup2

Our dog definitely liked the Mickey figurine that came in the collectors edition box too!

I actually took a game to trade in towards the cost of Epic Mickey, as we're leaving for WDW tomorrow and we're trying to save our cash. Turns out, the game store we went to is having a promo right now where certain games are receiving crazy trade-in value and I happened to be trading one of those in. Got $50 trade-in off the cost! :yay:

Just throwing in my two cents about the 'kid friendly' factor. I haven't played the game but my husband watched a preview online on YouTube and there was a disturbing scene where an evil mad scientist has Mickey tied down to a table and he tries to pull his heart out with a plunger among other things. It's very disturbing and not very Disney in my opinion. But then again, I'm easily freaked out by torture scenes, even if they're animated! This scene probably only represents a small portion of the game, but I can definitely tell you that it's not Mickey prancing through tulips. But you probably already knew that. :)

I bought the game today, but haven't played it yet. I am SURE that this will be me...I am controller challenged, to put it mildly! But I hope that I can figure it out and don't get too frustrated by it.

The very first area, there was a part where I had to retry a jump about 6 or 7 times, but after that I've kind of figured it out. It's not too bad so far.

Not very Disney? That's the Mad Doctor from the 1933 classic Mickey cartoon "The Mad Doctor."

that scene is very quick at the beginning. neither of my children seemed disturbed by it at all. :) and they don't play violent games or watch violent TV shows/movies. so, it isn't that they're used to dark violence. they aren't. and that didn't bother them.

I bought the game and paintbrush to go along with it today. My ds6 is a little young for it (which I knew he would probably be) so I started playing it to show him what to do. I also was excited about playing it because I loved the Kingdom Hearts games and thought it may be similar. I got to play for about 20 minutes or so before the game started to cause me to have MAJOR motion sickness. I got a huge headache and at one point threw the controller to my ds15 and ran from the room because I thought I was going to be sick. This has happened to me before while trying to watch my ds play the Call of Duty type games so while I wasn't exactly surprised that this happened, I am dissappointed . I read up on motion sickness from video games and I guess it is pretty common, some have advised taking ginger pills which I may try. Back to the game itself, my ds15 is still playing it, he seems to be enjoying it alot (he is a big gamer) so that says something. At this point I can only look at the screen for small moments of time before feeling nauseous again:headache:

I pre-ordered the collectors edition of Epic Mickey a while ago. I can't open it because its one of the gifts I'm giving DBF on Christmas (in WDW!!). We are pretty hardcore gamers so Epic Mickey should be child's play (which it is haha) but we're also kids at heart so it was a must buy.

My EPIC Mickey REVIEW!!

Ok since a lot of you have yet to play it heres a little info.

I work at a Gamestop, been there for a few years Mickey came out on the 30th and the whole day people were coming in and picking it up, it was very popular the first day out!

I picked up the Collectors Edition which came with:
Mickey figurine
Behind the scenes dvd
The game itself
and decals for your wii and wiimote!

And now for the game.

Now since mostly all us are Disney fans here I think each and every one of you will enjoy this. I got so excited every time I saw pieces of Disney World!

The beginning is like Fantasia and Mickey gets himself into a little mess playing with the Wizards model of Disney world which makes it into the "Waste Land".

The first level is this area where theres the Dumbo ride ( though they call it the elephant ride) lol and the teacups! I got so excited seeing this, after exploring a little bit of this area I went over to Its a small world ( I think they called it the boat ride or something ) The theme music plays in parts of the "ride" and you have to find your way out and to fix the boats. The next part I enjoyed alot was "Mean Street" which looks JUST like the Main Street we all know and love, but it is a little dark and mysterious, The castle is all distorted and the statue of Mickey and Walt is Walt and Oswald! The little cutscene that shows this OMG I was almost in tears! :confused3

I know this doesn't really tell a whole lot about the game, it is kind of hard to explain but once you get playing YOU WILL LOVE IT!

The Game DOES require ALOT of reading,as the characters dont voice over what is being said in the dialogue boxes so with that being said I would suggest this game for children 10 & up if you are considering it as a Christmas Gift, just giving a heads up.

I do not think it would be scary for young children at all, but it is different from the Mickey they may know from say Playhouse Mickey or whatever that show is called. It goes back to the older films of Mickey (Steamboat Willie etc) and also older characters are in it so they may not recognize them.

Overall though this game is GREAT! I really would recommend it to everyone here who is a true Mickey fan!
