Just wondering if anyone on here has played the new Epic Mickey game for the Wii. I was thinking about getting it for my 8 yr old DD, but didn't know if it would be a good Christmas gift or not. I could use your help...so if you have any feedback I sure would appreciate it!:thumbsup2

it doesn't come out until tomorrow. there are some reviews which are mostly positive, but i guess the controls are a bit wonky. i've played it a little myself and it seems pretty cool.

i actually just got a review copy but am having problems with my wiii so it looks like i might not get to give it a go tonight sadly.

I've played through it also. The camera is very annoying to the point where it affects gameplay adversely throughout. If you're unfamilar with the term, it means that the angle that you see Mickey makes it difficult to make jumps and defeat enemies. A lot of the time you'll be pointing the cursor to paint something in the distance and Mickey will just paint right underneath his feet so that you have to inch right up to the edge in order to control Mickey how you would like. With that said, it's an imaginative game with a fun story and some pretty decent graphics. I think it's a must-buy for any Disney fan, despite the control problems.

i'm playing it now... just got to gremlin village (i want to at least fight the first boss tonight). the camera is a bit odd. the C button snaps to behind Mickey so I end up trying to first position Mickey as I like and then hit C which doesn't always work.

honestly it seems like the C button was added to fix an underlying issue.

it's not too bad so far, but I guess I'm still in training mode, so gameplay seems pretty linear thus far.

There isn't a boss for a while. The first one I ran into was the clock after a couple of hours. There might have been one before that I was able to skip, it depends on which "gremlins" you save. Theoretically, you can skip just about every boss if you do things a certain way.

the clock tower is the first boss, but i kept dying in it's a small world so I had to call it quits for a bit. got other stuff to work on and going to cover the launch tomorrow morning so eventually gotta get a little sleep.

I just saw a commercial for it. Im open to getting it but the fact that its Wii only kinda annoys me lol. It like saying " Oh your Disney fan ? Guess what ? Buy a Wii"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this was supposed to be a darker version of Mickey and that this game was not really oriented towards young children. At least that's what I read months ago on here. It never occured to me to be a Wii game I would buy for our kids.

i probably wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 7. even 7-8 i'm not that sure on.

I played it a bit at Best Buy over the weekend. It is sort of darker (dark, spooky sets), but Mickey himself isn't darker as much as he is back to the original mischievous character Walt designed--Steamboat Willie, not Mickey's Playhouse. He creates a mess and he has to get himself out. It's sort of an homage to both early Mickey cartoons and old Disney memorabilia. I don't know that a real young child would be that interested in it, but it's not like Mickey is evil or anything. I saw it described in a review as "choosing between being very nice or being a tiny bit selfish but still quite nice."

My understanding is that originally you would have the option to be "evil," but they ultimately decided not to go in that direction. There are a few times throughout the game that you have the choice to either save someone or take some treasure instead, but it's pretty obvious that it's smarter to save the gremlin and you'll be rewarded more later. The whole story behind the game is that you're in the "wasteland," trying to improve the world. It's definitely a little "dark," but considering most kids are playing Call of Duty anyway, I don't think it's inappropriate for kids.

My kids are 8, 9, 10 and 14 and I don't know what Call of Duty is. We aren't huge "gamers" and the only things they are allowed to play have to be rated E, for everyone. What is this game rated?

I don't have any kids and the only game system I have is the PlayStation one (second version-smaller unit) and I can guess what Call of Duty is.

My guess is it's some soldier fighting game.

E for Epic Mickey. I'm not sure about CoD, but I think that's M or T.

Anyone else played it yet? I'm on the fence about buying it for my DDs.

My 8 year old saw it on display at Best Buy.. he was not impressed...

Darnit.. that would have given me an excuse at least.. LOL
