Hello all, this may be a silly question but it just occurred to me that one or both of these items may need to be brought onboard differently. My friend and I will be on a double dip on the Fantasy in August. Several years ago we cruised together on the Dream and since then I've gotten the bug and gone on a few more cruises. This will be her second cruise, and since our last cruise she has been issued an epi pen. Two, actually, that she is to carry at all times. So, they will be on her as we board the boat. Do we need to be prepared to explain them in any special way? Drs note? Just wondering because they are technically a sharp object I would think? Forgive me if this is a ridiculous question, we travel together a lot and this is still new.

Also, we will have a vape pen with us. Does it matter if its in checked baggage or carried on?

EpiPens are medication and may be taken on board. Make sure it’s in its original packaging.

please be aware that vaping can only be done in the ships smoking areas, not in any indoor areas, your state room, or your veranda, if you have one.

I was also curious about traveling (aka leaving the country) with prescriptions. I was advised to have the container/box with the doctors info on it. I haven't had any issues.

We have been on numerous cruises with our DS's epi pen and have never been questioned. Honestly sometimes its not even in it's original packaging, just the pen in the plastic container but the above posters are correct, it should be :guilty:

No advice regarding the epi pen, but I just cruised with my father-in-law and he brought a vape pen onboard. He had it in his pocket and took it out for security, like you put your keys and wallet in a small bucket. I was surprised that he could bring it (and frankly shocked he tried), but he also brought it through security coming back after Grand Cayman. As far as I know, he used it on deck 4.

I've never cruised before, but I would have thought that the ship was non-smoking like an airplane. I am not a smoker (tobacco or marijuana), so I hadn't bothered to read up on smoking.

Like previous posters, I’ve taken cruises on three different cruise lines and never had a problem carrying on my epi pens. I’ve also taken them on port excursions in the Caribbean and Alaska with no issues.
Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

The ship is mostly non-smoking. You cannot smoke in any interior area, and people who have a verandah cabin cannot smoke on their verandah. Smoking is limited to a few outdoor areas.

Not yet, if ever. Too many international passengers on cruise ships from nations where laws actually prohibit restrictions on smoking. Actually listened in to a conversation on DCL between a gentleman who I think was from somewhere in the Middle East and an Officer about the smoking restrictions on the ship and how in his home land, there are small non-smoking areas, otherwise you can smoke anywhere.
Sort of like the move from suggested tips, to automatic tips. I suspect the confusion about tips, and passengers from cultures where tipping is either not the norm, or in some cases, considered an insult, prompted that. Our first cruise on HAL back in 2005 their policy still was "no tip expected" because "we pay our staff adequate wages". They would't even suggest a tip level....but they DID have envelopes available for tips! 10 years later, they had switched to automatic tips on your bill.

I can't see any country still allowing smoking in airplanes. More and more countries are banning smoking outdoors. And guests with pockets deep enough to sail on DCL probably are not expecting to be able to smoke at their will.

Not sure, I think there are still many deep pocketed international passengers who are surprised by the restrictions. Okay, maybe shocked is a better word.

My Husband travels with his Vape thing (Not a pen, its one of the larger ones with the larger battery that can be used as a backup charger) an he always brings it with him in our carry on luggage or backpack and never has any issues.

The Fantasy has a covered smoking section Deck 13 Forward in the adults only area and during the late evening and early morning hours, one can smoke on deck 4.

Enjoy your cruise!
