I wanted to let everyone know that there's a grass roots effort to start a "GayDays" for Epcot's Food & Wine Festival. Last year was the first year for this and it's held on the last Saturday of the Festival. We went last year and saw several other attendees in their red shirts from GayDays.

This years is planned for October 3rd, 2009. If you are on FaceBook there's a group for it. Just search for "Food Wine Epcot Gay" and you should come across it.

:woohoo:

cool. Maybe I can get Kari to take the day off to go with me. It's not fun that she wants to work every Gay Day weekends... just cause of the bears show.
And for the most part most people look at me like I'm one of those few lost souls that have no idea why every one is wearing red. Of course it doesn't help when I'm by myself either.

October 3rd isn't the last Saturday of the festival. :confused3

This is a great idea. I'm planning on going to F&W, but I don't know when yet.

So I am confused .... is it October 3rd or the last day of food and wine in November?

Whoops! You're right. Let me investigate and I'll post back.

Cool! Thanks! I am crossing my fingers for Nov! I can never make GayDays in the summer and the begining of October is not better for me. However Novmber I am already booked!!!

Ok, this is from the heading on their FaceBook Group:

A grass roots campaign made November 8th, 2008 the first annual Gay Day at EPCOT's International Food and WIne Festival. It was a great event..and it's time to plan for the 2nd annual! October is a great time to be in Orlando (not as hot, not as crowded) and the Festival is a treat...special food and wine kiosks are added to every pavillion. Dee-lish-us! Let's all go and wear purple shirts...the color of a fine merlot!

So to clarify, the date is October 3rd and the shirt color is purple. Time to hit Zazzle and make make a shirt to wear!

Oh well. I can't go at that time of year. Thanks for lookimg it up for me! Have fun!

Hmmm. As luck would have it, I WILL be there October 3rd. We'll be arriving that morning .... keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to hook up with some of our DIS friends!!! :goodvibes

Nope not a good day for us here, either. We'll be in St. Pete's at a Yankees Rays game.

It really should stick with the last Saturday for loads of reasons, one being the level of attendance issues (which are never to be disregarded). Weekends for the Festival are JAMMED.

Conflicting with Gay Days at Disneyland isn't too cool either. Not a good idea to set up conflicts regardless of distance.

So, grass roots and all, it needs to be responsive to the community.

I've been sending the facebook group out to everyone, but I do agree that the last Saturday would be a lot less crowded and probably more well-recieved.

well I'll put it on the calendar. I might end up at a wedding in WI that weekend, but I'm not sure yet.

I don't believe I own any purple shirts...time to visit that wonderful Hanes Tshirt shop again!! I can see it now

Don't be bashful

Admit your mistake!
Reopen the clubs!

Zulemara: Did you get your avatar from the Genesis game "Moonwalker"? :cool1:

LOL, kari's favorite color. The only purple shirt she wears is the one at work, and she only likes it because she doesn't like the pink one of thunder.

But why would they want to put it in with Disneyland's??? Is this supposed to be like an alternative or something for those that can't travel to Cali??
November would seem a lot better since the halloween rush will be over, and christmas hasn't quite started.

Sorry about the mispelling of "Festival".

clearly I am having a Beavis and Butt-head moment, but if you have two of'em, would you have a pair of festicals???? heh...heh...heh... OKAY -- I feel SO better getting that out of my system.

Seriously, the idea sounds like a lot of fun.:goodvibes
