Anyone with an English degree out there? I think "Epcot" on Spaceship Earth should read "EPCOT" not "Epcot" because it is an acronym. hmmmm

It usually is written as EPCOT in official places...it's just the rest of us that call it Epcot as a name and do the lowercase.

I thought that I read in one of my guide books that, although it was originally intended as an acronym, that fell by the wayside (what was it supposed to stand for?), and was thereafter used as a proper noun.

Full disclosure though: I changed from an english to a public policy major halfway through college, so no english degree here.

Disney changed it because they couldn't or wouldn't handle the pressure of making it appear to be an Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. It was that fulfillment of Walts last big dream, name wise, but it was never what he invisioned. Actually it wasn't EPCOT from the very beginning. It never was a community, just a futuristic Theme park. They went with the name hoping the World showcase would carry over the symbolism. It, of course, doesn't. Having a lack of anything else to call it Epcot it became. I can't even imagine it named anything else.
