Epcot to the Boardwalk...

I want to visit the Boardwalk area at least for a little while and it seemed like a side trip off the International entrance at Epcot would be a good idea. Isn't there a boat that takes you over? Is there another way that would be better? I doubt my ds will allow shopping for more than an hour (he already barely puts up with Epcot for me at all!), but maybe we can get lunch there or something. Any tips?

Just walk over. It's probably quicker but if you'd like to ride the boat, you can board it right after you leave Epcot thru the International entrance. We love the Boardwalk on the weekend during the evening. There is all kinds of things going on and is quite fun. Enjoy!

you can take the friendship boat from the international gateway to the boardwalk, thats what we do, its a relaxing trip on the water.

We normally walk from the International Gateway to the Boardwalk area. It is maybe a ten minute walk once you exit Epcot. Your son would probalby prefer the boat since it would then be like some kind of ride to him. The boat is certainly relaxing, but a lot slower than just walking.
FYI the Friendship Boats stop at the Beach/Yacht clubs, Boardwalk, Swan/Dolphin and then continue on to the Disney Studios.

While the boat may be slower, if it is really hot and humid outside the boat is much better. If it is a nice day and you still have energy to climb a little hill, then walking is definately better. We usually go to the Boardwalk via Epcot as well.

Is your DS into sports or arcade games? If so, bribe him with lunch at ESPN - I think you'll both like it. BWV have a small arcade (go under the arch near the Wyatt Gallery), too. It won't take much more than an hour (if that) to browse through the BW shops. The BW games/entertainment may not be operating if you visit before late afternoon.
