EPCOT - renovations??....in the news......

Is it just me or is this just another potential closure, with no definite plans for renovations? I'm still waiting for DHS renovations to be announced, but so far it's all attraction closures.

Here's to hoping something is in the pipeline and they're not just going to shutter the building indefinitely.

I just hope they don't get rid of the Disney visa meet and greet that is a nice perk for those that have it.

Insider on wdwmagic are confirming this is the case. Still no word on what will become of the space. Innoventions in Disneyland is no more as well. It's becoming a 60th anniversary special location and then after that it's up in the air.

In this case, Iger told the public that an announcement for HS is forthcoming.....maybe added to an announcement for Epcot too.....

Star Wars will be a great theme in HS. Pixar too.
Marvel works in DisneyLand.
Epcot needs a bit of reimagining and that's above my pay grade.

Iger has hinted at something coming for like three years
A $billion project should take time. But the closures and loss of the Hat make the announcement likely to be imminent.....I'd bet when Anna & Elsa move into old American Idol space and/or around new stage opening.

When is all this great stuff coming? 5 years, 10 years, 20 years????

How do we know this is a billion dollar project? The sing a long is confirmed to be moving in the American idol theater because frozen fun is back this year again. Rumors regarding a redo of DHS have been around for over 3 years. It started with carsland is coming to DHS.

50th Anniversary is 2021.....let the marketing begin.....

6 more years for Iger to leave a Next Generation legacy and announce a successor.

That's my bet for the completions.

Announcements - I really don't know.

And something that has been needed since the park went away from a studio will now be turned into hey look what we are doing for the 50th. That's unfortunately what Disney does. 50th anniversary stuff should be above and beyond what they need. WDW tends to do the bare minimum.

Oh and remember that backlot tour? Well it's sitting exactly like it was before it close just tram less and it's been closed for over six months. Think of all the empty buildings in both DHS and Epcot.

We probabaly won't see it in our lifetime, maybe our grandchildren will live to see all of the new attractions.

It's really ridiculous. Groundbreaking for Epcot Center was on October 1, 1979 and the entire park opened three years later.

Groundbreaking for the entire Walt Disney World complex was on May 30, 1967 and roughly five years later, the Magic Kingdom opened along with the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Fort Wilderness Campground. Also Bay Lake was dredged and the Seven Seas Lagoon was created along with drainage canals all over the property. And now it takes 7 years to build Avatarland?

While I don't want to give Disney credit actual building on avatar is 4 years not seven. Disney is a company that makes their construction budget span several fiscal years.

There's no doubt that they CAN build quickly. They just don't WANT to build quickly. Disney wasn't making any money from empty swampland so there was an urgency to getting WDW built. Animal Kingdom is doing fine right now, so they feel they can spread out the cost of the project over several years and take their time.

Plus, (not to defend Disney's slow construction times, but) let's not forget the James Cameron factor in Avatarland. Look how long it's taking him to get the Avatar movie sequels completed and released. He keeps pushing them back. Lenghty time frames and delays are also very much a part of his MO.

From a budget/profit point of view, I see the new revenue from occupancy rates (driven by on-site FP+ advantage), rising Park attendance from FantasyLand expansion, rising prices, and soon to open Avatar as better justifying an ongoing buildout for a few years.

However, never soon enough.

But building does take a vision to the future and how the Park(s) may look in another 50 years.

I think once Frozen moves to American Idol spot, demolition will begin.....and announcements.
