We're leaving for our 1st trip to Disneyworld in 3 weeks and have pretty much planned out all our 8 days, except for day #3. We have 2 kids ages 6 & 9. I would love some advise on: Should we go to Epcot and where should we eat? OR--- should we go to MGM and eat where?
PLEASE HELP US DECIDE!! We can only do one of them! :earsgirl:

I'm not sure whether you want a Counter service or a Table Service, but if in MGM I would recommend Sci-Fi Dine-In for Lunch and stick to the basics like burgers, etc., or if they are a little experimental try any of the places in the World Showcase at EPCOT with ehe excetion of USA. My fairly picky kids, aged 11 and 8, liked every counter service at EPCOT with the exception of USA. The burgers were awful at Liberty Inn. I think I want to hurl!!!!

Mexico was pretty good. Plentiful Nachos and the Churro for dessert was a real winner.

Thanks-- I've heard that the Sci-Fi is a great place to eat!

Anyone else have an idea of which one to choose? MGM or Epcot?

If you are a family that likes culture and new and different experiences, then you can't go wrong at Epcot/World Showcase. We love to eat at Teppanyaki's the Japanese Rest. where they make your food at the table. The Belly dancers in Morrocco are entertaining as well. Most kids like Mexican and the environment there is neat. We haven't found anywhere in MGM that we just LOVE the food. That's our personal opinion and we have 3 kids---8,6,4. We have eaten at the Sci-fi and feel it is way over-priced, but neat atmosphere for dessert. The Prime Time Cafe is fun, but a little over young kids' heads with "Mom" serving and getting onto you for not eating your green beans---food is OK. IMHO

i think even though i personally like epcot better with 2 little ones i'd go to MGM since there are more shows they probably would be interested in ( beauty & beast, Little mermaid, stunt show) as far as food there goes the only place i really like is brown derby and while i see kids there it isn't themed. sci fi is nice for atmosphere only(1 hr 45 mins shot for food that was pretty bad and service even worse)

really if you can with 8 days, i'd go to both.

or at least go to epcot after ak ( if you have park hoppers ) since it's open later. illuminations is really great. there with kids i think beirgarten( lots of "basic"variety for more picky eaters plus a music show) chefs and lecellier are very good food but again more adult themed( not that you can't take kids, just more like a regular restaurant) norway i think is a character meal for all meals now.

MGM. The Fantasmic show is great. Your kids will love that much more than Illuminations at Epcot. It all depends on your kids' likes. If they will do things like Tower of Terror and the rollercoaster, then MGM is your choice. If they are more science/nature minded, then you might consider Epcot. If I had a choice for my DD4, it would be MGM hands down. THis next trip, we are actually skipping AK, because my mom will be with and I think she would like Epcot.

Epcot and MGM are so different! During your 8 day stay you MUST see both!! Both have much to offer any age group.
I'd like to eat at Brown Derby at MGM (not themed really, but the best food) for dining, or counter service I like the ABC commissary. It totally depends on your taste.
At Epcot, I like all of the restraunts in the countries. I prefer the teppanyaki, but they are all pretty good! It is fun to not eat a sit down dinner at Epcot and just munch around the world from the different stands as well.
It is kind of fun to poke your head into the restraunts as you go by just to know what they look like for future visits. I sometimes cruise past tables quickly and glance at food on peoples plates (I look like a diner just heading to the bathroom)!! :rotfl2:

I would go to MGM studios...and eat at 50's Primetime or Sci Fi!!!I personally LOVE Epcot, but most kids that age can get a little bored!

If your kids like movies, then I'd suggest MGM.

World showcase at Epcot can get a little boring for young kids. Although they would prolly love the front half of Epcot. My personal fave since '83 has always been Epcot. But I was always culturally minded, even as a kid.
I can't suggest restaurants tho since it's been years since I've been there.

If it was my decision with children those ages I would pick MGM and Sci-Fi. My kids all enjoyed going there.

I'd vote for MGM, and Hollywood & Vine. I like the buffet restaurants with kids, cause there's alot to choose from, and you don't have to wait after you sit down. And the food is passable, it not terrific.

When I was 11ish we ate at Prime Time and didn't enjoy it. Goofy, but not really kid humor, unless you as a parent are willing to ham it up and get berated for having elbows on table, etc. Then again, you could just embarrass them. I have adored EPCOT since I was tiny, though. Garden Grill has characters and a kid-friendly menu, and love Mexico for the boats going past the pyramid while you eat. If your budget allows the Coral Reef is also great with kids - they stay occupied with the fishies, and the people, while you get a "real" meal.

My vote would be EPCOT. Don't get me wrong. I love MGM. It is my second favorite park but EPCOT is my first. Number one reason is the rides. I love just about everything there and Soarin' is the best ride at WDW. Second, is the endless opportunities for food. You can eat at any of the countries, if you choose or just get a burger or a dog in FutureWorld. No other park offers you the choices that you can get in World Showcase. My Mom and Dad enjoy going to Mexico to eat. I enjoy going to the American Adventure and wish I could eat at Italy. I wish I could be there right now.

At Epcot our favorite place to eat so far is Italy but this time we will be going to LeCellier in Canada and have heard wondeful things about it. My son is now 8yo and I think besides MK Epcot is his favorite park. He has been going since he was 5. There is so much to see and do there.

At MGM we don't like any of their counter services places but really enjoyed Hollywood and Vine and my DS loved when we took him to 50's Prime Time and the waiter yelled at grandpa :rotfl:

He is now onld enough to ride Rockin Roller Coaster so he can't wait to get back in just a few days.

Good luck with whatever you decide

I'd choose Epcot. My son loved Epcot at both those ages. There is so much to do for them. Get them a Passport for the World Showcase. Eat around the World. Epcot is my favorite Park & now it is my son's favorite to (it used to be tied with MK)

There are great food options at Epcot as well, where MGM's food is rather lacking. The Table service restaurants are good, but the counter service there is atrocious.

With 8 days, surely you can do both tho.

I would go with MGM and go with the Fantamic Dinner Package. You pick from Hollywood and VIne, Mamma Melrose or Brown Derby to eat at and then you get a pass to get into Fatamic through a special entrance so you don't have to wait for the show as long.

My kids LOVE Rock and Roller coaster and tower of terror and like the muppet show, little mermaid, and the stunt show.

They are so, so on Epcot. The last time we were there, they got bored after test track and mission space and wanted to hop to MGM.

What a dilemma! I love both parks! For Epcot.. we usually do Garden Grill in the Land pavillion. And for MGM, I like Sci-Fi and 50s Prime Time. We both enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was excellent!

I guess I would go with Epcot. I like visiting different countries. Besides, the attraction Soarin' is at Epcot and Test Track... and Spaceship Earth!!
