what time does the Epcot IG open if the park opens either at normal time or emh? Is there a rope drop line there as well? We are staying in an Epcot area resort so don't want to walk all the way to the front entrance. Thanks

The IG and front entrance should open at the same time, they just block off the portion of WS that doesn't open with the park. I am not sure about there being a rope drop though.

The IG opens the same time as the front gate. I don't know whether they do anything special in terms of RD - I've never been there that early!

ETA - there's no path or roadway for you to walk to the front of Epcot from the Epcot resorts. So the IG is it.

There is no rope drop like in MK just a bunch of CM directing traffic to Future World since WS does not open until 11am daily

It opens the same time as the main entrance. There is no ceremony. Once you are inside, they will guide you toward Future World. It is a nice way to start your Epcot day!

You can access Les Halles in France for a morning pastry, even though the rest of WS is not open.

Actually it's really nice going through that entrance. Often there are more CM's there than guests. I think there's usually a photographer right at the bridge to France when they open. The countries (GB, Canada) are sparsely populated as it's mostly just resort guests passing through.

Hi, hoping someone can answer this question. We are staying at BWV, and have two breakfast reservations at the Garden Grill at 8am (want to be first in line for Soarin :-)). Will a CM someone be at IG at 7:50am to let us in so we can get to our resi?

Thanks!

Do you lose the "rope drop" advantage though? If we're headed to Test Track, are we going to be behind the RD crowd by the time we get there?

Park opens at 9am. I was told ... just have you're breakfast ... walk out of the restaurant ... and down the stairs.

Now I need to understand if I can get in that early (before 8am) via IG. Anybody know?

Sorry, I meant RD from IG - not from Garden Grill.

Please help clarify for me: what exactly is rope drop?! I always thought it was when they let you in the park. Does the term "rope drop" actually refer to something more ceremonial than just letting you in? I've only ever gone into parks with PPO breakfasts or long after the park opened.

"Rope Drop" tends to be more "special" at the MK than anywhere else. There's a ceremony where they officially declare the park open. Characters come along on the train and there's confetti, music, the Mayor makes an appearance, and there's a family chosen daily to "open" the park. You see it less at other parks, though there used to be something similar at EPCOT. Not sure if there's still anything at the AK, though, as we rarely make opening there any more. Same goes for the Studios.

I did Rope Drop at Epcot a couple weeks ago in an attempt to ride Frozen Ever After (I got sick and ended up not riding, but that's a different story).

So here's how it worked. At about 8:45, both the front and IG gates were opened. Right before the Mexico pavilion, ropes were strung across the pathway to block off the World Showcase. They also have ropes up at certain spots on each side in Future World prior to actually reaching the rides. At 9:00 (+/- a couple minutes), the ropes are removed and the groups gathered behind them can proceed to the rides - that part is where the term Rope Drop comes from, although it's usually used to refer to the whole process in my experience (since best practice is to be in place at the entrance well before start time to enter at 8:45ish and actually get to the ropes before they "drop" at 9).

The timing seemed about the same: the first arrivals from the main gate reached the rope at basically the same time as the first few from IG (and measuring the distance via map shows the distances as almost identical).

So if Norway is your destination, either gate should be the same - if IG is more conveniently located for you, then go for it! It's also a prettier walk, in my opinion, going past the UK and Canada pavilions instead of going through the center of Future World.

If you're trying to get to Soarin' or Test Track before a crowd forms, though, you're better off going through the main gate - because they're at the front of the park, it will take a lot longer to get there from IG than from the main entrance.

Nice to see they are consistently opening both gates at the exact same time.

At times in the past, the IG was often opened quite a few minutes after the maingate-I remember one time we watched Guests who had come from the maingate crossing the English Channel Bridge before we were even let in the IG.

Does someone know the answer to above? Will a CM be at IG at 7:50am to let us in for a 8am breakfast resi, even though the park will not open until 9am?

Thanks!
