Epcot / EMH transportation questions

We will be in Epcot on an EMH day when the park opens at 8am. Since we will only have one day in Epcot, we wanted to make rope drop. Is it true that the Epcot monorail does not run until 7:30 am? I'm thinking there will be quite a crowd waiting to board if this is true, and it will be after 8 by the time we get through security and the turnstiles. Does the Poly run an earlier bus to Epcot, or would we be better off driving there? For those who have driven, how difficult is it to leave the Epcot lot following Illuminations; any better than using Disney transportation? We are staying at SOG, so we can walk over to the Poly/TTC.

I would drive. It's going to be time consuming to take the monorail. When it comes to leaving Epcot for the evening, just take your time exiting.....grab something to eat and then just slowly make your way to the exit. I like to walk around WS for a bit as the crowds thin...then it's much easier to leave the park.
