EPCOT DVC Rumors

Maybe they could make the Fire Station on Main Street a DVC property? It's a one bedroom and it would cost like 50,000 points per night. If you owned there maintenance fees would be like $100.12 per point.

I want them to make the "dream suite" in the castle available on points! :)

Well the ultimate DVC resort would be the castle!....How many studios could they fit in there?;)

You are correct on all points. That is what is being said about DVC, and we members.
IMO, there are some valid concerns about the affects on Disney by DVC. While I think those listed above do fit some people's concerns, none are significant in my book. However, I think the major and valid concern that people can have toward DVC and DVC members is that DVC members as a group seem to feel more entitled than the general Disney going community as a whole. That's not to say their the only ones who present this way but we have more than our fair share in this group it seems.

Honestly, we should have more perks. Flashing the DVC card should get us more. We are guaranteeing 50 years of business at Disney Parks. I know Disney is a huge company, but a large percentage of their revenue comes from regular customers and DVC members have committed to going to Disney Parks and spending money for the next 50 years. Most families that I know will bring there kids to Disney once or twice while they're growing up.

As far as Epcot goes, I think DVC will be doing much more with hotels and resorts that are right on theme parks, not in the theme park area. BLT is right on top of MK and GF will be very close to the MK experience. Making a resort that is right on top of Epcot seems like a very probable venture.

Not directed at you, and I read this sentiment a lot, but why? We agreed to buy a timeshare, nothing more. Just because ours is owned by the same company who operates Disney Parks, why should we expect a bunch of perks from another operating division's budget? Would you expect these perks from Marriott or Wyndham?

Our costs cover the construction and maintenance fees the operating costs. They don't fund a slush fund of perks and benefits. Any of those we get are based on DVC's ability to negotiate discounts with other divisions.

I like the Perks, and I'll leverage some of them, but I don't expect them. The AP discount makes sense. When we've used it, we've spent significantly more time in the parks and spend more money than if we'd had MYW tickets that we ration. Combine the AP with TiW and we're spending significantly more money as without that combination we spend fewer days in the park and eat offsite or in our room much more often. I can bet this is why we don't get MYW discounts and why a TiW options is coming.

But, to believe we're entitled to discounts and savings because we spent a lot of money would be inaccurate. We just hedged our lodging risk by prepaying for our vacation lodging like Southwest Airlines did fuel when others didn't. Unfortunately, for those who purchased in the 2008-Present period, they're not seeing the return just yet as the discounts have been greater than the pre-purchase of DVC.

If we want more perks and discounts, then we have to demonstrate how that discount will ultimately generate more revenue overall for Disney. Every discount we get does this:
-AP - more days in the park, less concerns than a day-by-day MYW tickets
-DDP - forced to eat at restaurants vs. cook in room or go offsite
-Restaurant discounts - offered at non-peak times in less busy restaurants

Why do AP holders get better discounts? Because they've already invested in access to the parks. Come or not, Disney got their money. The discounts encourage spending money in other areas. Me playing mini-golf at a discount is better than not playing at all because I already paid to go in a park.

Some of the best discounts are offered to Disney Visa holders. Why? Because most people carry a balance and pay interest on their cards. We finally got the card for the discounts and only use it for Disney related purchases and trips, and to pay our dues.

There are plenty of obnoxious people at Disney, DVC no more than any other group.

On the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour, don't they tell you about the 4 keys Disney uses which they supposedly apply to all decisions, I think the first letter of each key in order spelled "S.A.F.E". Don't remember all of them but the first is Safety, then in the middle somewhere is something like show or guest experience and only the last one is economy. So guest experience should always rate higher than saving money.

But it seems this credo has been abandoned a long time ago, at least as far as the hotels go. Just think about how some rooms have really crappy views, the so called dumpster views...

On the other hand, I think DisneySea and the Hotel MiraCosta are a prime example how it can and should be done. Their lowest priced room category, called Tuscany Side, faces away from the park and obviously, you will have some non-Disney view intrusions, just because on the higher floors you will see the city surrounding the resort, but they still went to the expense to put in some nice tuscany-style gardens on that side who never probably will set a foot in, but at least, if you look out the window, looking down you will see a beautiful garden. However, on the other side of the hotel, facing the park, I don't think you would be able to see any backstage areas. There are some rooms with obstructed view and they are cheaper than other rooms on that side of the resort, but the obstructions are architectural features like towers, statues etc. which make sense with the theme of the resort, but you still get to see into the park.

Disney doesn't need to offer any perks because the new contracts will live for 50 years without any perks and there is little additional financial benefit for Disney. Disney knows that members will buy admission media, they know that you may buy a AP and only use it for 7 days, they know, where you eat and how much you spend on food, they know that the average DVC Member vacations for 7 days. They control everything and as a business, their decisions are based on profit and return on investment.

If it makes money, they do it, if it doesn't they won't.

Maybe that's true related to obnoxious people but DVC clearly has more than their fair share of entitlement mentality and I can understand it up to a point when you've invested a significant amount of money, believed the hype and committed your vacation plans long term.
