Has anyone one participated in the Epcot DiveQuest? Is it worth the money?

Hi -

I bought this as a surprise for DH in fall 2004 - you can usually get a 10% discount on it - AAA has one, and I think there are coupons in the back of the Birnbaums book.

If you dive often at all, it is super-tame and gets a bit old (and chilly! They put you in a shorty, and the water is upper 70's.) at the end, but it is very fun to wave at all the people eating in the restaurant! Many photos taken of us... I wouldn't do it again, but it did have a degree of entertainment for a one-time thing.

I pasted the url's for my trip report below. We were able to take a shower afterwards, which enabled us to head over to the UK Pub for some adult beverages without smelling like fish tank. Nice touch.

I agree with 2vets. If you dive often in the Caribbean or other similar place, you might find it tame and cold. DH and I did it last Oct and enjoyed it. But I don't think I would do again. When we did it The Living Seas was closed and only the restaurant was open. So that may have taken some of the atmosphere away.
They do have showers and lockers to store your stuff. The locker rooms have hair dryers, soap, shampoo, and towels. They provide the equipment, but you can bring your own mask (if you want). They make a DVD and you can purchase it after the dive. After the dive you change and shower and then watch the DVD (and purchase it if you want), get a certificate and t-shirt.

HTH,
Ginger

Does it really last for three hours or did you get done sooner? My DH is doing the 4:30 dive and we then have Chef Mickeys reservations at 7:40. Enough time??

Your DH might be a bit late...we were also there the whole 3 hrs. Maybe you can delay CMs by 30 min? Otherwise, I'd have him explain the situation to the CMs doing DiveQuest and ask if he can be "released" a bit earlier.

Have a great trip! Tell your hubby to have a great time showing off for the little kids...

(PS - Ginger - so funny...I just realized about the cold...we just dove up here in New England last weekend in our drysuits!!! Now THAT was cold!! I'd just have appreciated a bit more than a shorty in that tank, ya know? Happy diving!)

My dad and stepmother, both very experienced and master divers, absolutley LOVED Dive Quest. They couldn't get over how clean everything was and how top notch Disney did things. They also did the 4:30 dive. We made our 7:30 seating for dinner in Morraco.

You will be asked to be there by 4:15 and be collected by a Cast Member to present your credentials. The only thing you need is a bathing suit. You can bring your own mask but that's about it. Yes, it is cold but my dad said you quickly get used to it. Your family can observe you from the Living Seas and be part of the video produced from the dive (do not pass up the chance to get the video). My dad and stepmother bring that thing out every chance they get.

You'll get some introduction to everything and then right around 5:00, be dropped into the tank. 20 minute controlled dive and then another 20 minute "free" dive with a buddy. With my dad and stepmother, there was a delay and they were down there for a full hour. Then back to outside the tank for showers and a debriefing and a showing of the video. We, as the viewers, were told to meet them at the gift shop at 6:30. They didn't appear until 7:00. My advice - set up a meeting place outside the Living Seas. We were bored beyond our minds waiting there.

Don't worry about your reservation for dinner. Just have fun. I know I sure did just watching the divers. And don't forget - the entire tab is tax free since all proceeds go towards research. Charitable contribution.
