Epcot Dinner Reccommendations for Illuminations

So I'm taking my bf to Dinsey, and its his first time, so I want to make sure he has a good view of Illuminations. We will be there on July 4th- instead of at 9pm the fireworks are at 10pm. I was under the impression that the restaurants closed at 9pm- is this when the kitchen closes or when you have to leave? Do you think they would mind if we stayed until 10 to watch the show? Has anyone ever done this on the 4th? We have a little over 3 weeks until the trip- do you think that would be enough time in advance to make a reservation? And what time should I make the reservation for?

What restaurant would you reccommend? I've heard good spots are the Rose Crown & Pub (although I've heard the food isn't that great), San Angel Inn outside seating (I didn't even know they had outside seating), and the steakhouse or sushi bar at Japan (although we tried this one once and there were a few things blocking the view and the breeze carried all the smoke in our direction).

Don't know about a ADR this late in the game. It's possible, you'd just have to call and see what you get.

What about an Illuminations Cruise? That would probably be tough this close to your trip but you could always hope for a cancellation.

Rose and Crown would probably be the only sit down meal where you would have an unobstructed view of the show, but that's only if you're lucky enough to get seated outside. The Lounge at Japan is a good place, but there will be some things blocked and you can't hear the show. The only place in Mexico is the little CS cantina out front.

I'd eat where I wanted to and then find a nice place outside to enjoy the show.
