This may belong in the “Rumors” forum, but I’m posting it here anyway…

I’m fascinated with the rumors about the possible changes to Future World in 2005. There are quite a few sites talking up the gutting of Spaceship Earth into more of a thrill ride, and a replacement for Ellen’s Energy, among others.

And in World Showcase, the rumor about reworking the El Rio Del Tiempo ride into a Three Caballeros attraction is exciting to me. Rio is a horrible attraction (aside from the volcano, which you can see without going on the ride). The 70’s-era video is embarrassingly bad. And the Three Caballeros would be a theme not normally seen at WDW.

They’re just rumors, but fun to talk about. :)

Any possibility there may be some announcements regarding the “Gemini” changes at the Epcot media event in October? What do you guys think?

What do I think?
I think that anyone that gets wrapped up in the numerous and frequent rumors about WDW makes P. T. Barnum look like a genius:smooth: :smooth:

I wish they would just leave old rides alone and build new ones in somewhere else

SE is a favorite of mine

If I want thrill rides I will go to 6-flags

Oh, how clever :D

If you’re saying I’m a sucker, then bear in mind that I’m not necessarily believing the rumors. But I wouldn’t mind overhauling Rio, so I hope that one's true. I think it needs some freshening :)

Bibbidiboo--I agree with you about Rio. That video is embarrassingly old. I just don't want to see it turned into another thrill ride. There's so few rides that I can take my small children on. There are a lot of things they could do to it to make it more appealing without making it an all out thrill ride. I know that thrill rides have their place, but I think one reason MK is such a popular park is they have a variety of rides. As for Spaceship Earth, I've never been, but I do love Epcot's WS. I hope if they make some changes--there's always room for change--that they keep the same atmosphere in WS.

As for the Other Poster's comments. I don't think you sound like a sucker at all. You presented the topic as rumors and we all know what that means. And you handled the rude response with a lot more grace than I would have.

The El Rio del Tiempo rumor is ancient, and it's quite unlikely that they will retheme the ride in the near future.

The Universe of Energy will stay the way it is for some time to come - The Living Seas, Spaceship Earth, Wonders of Life and the Land Pavilion come before it in terms of plans for updated attractions.

The Spaceship Earth re-do seems to have been delayed since AT&T renewed their sponsorship at the last minute, and now Soarin' seems to have been greenlighted instead. Considering Disney has sat on their butts and done nothing for much of the late 90s, it seems extremely unlikely that Epcot would receive three e-ticket attractions within three years, in addition to the Animal Kingdom and Studios e-tickets.
