Has any of you ever done this 1 hour tour?

Our 9 year old DS is an absolute SCIENCE NUT. Plants (anything related to plants) are his passion. But I'm wondering if this is like a 'lecture' tour or some hands-on stuff. I'm afraid if its all just talk his little sister (7) will get bored and I don't want to ruin it for him - or anyone else on the tour.

Thanks for any comments.

DS and I went on the tour the day after Mother's Day. It was very interesting. Actually, for the price, it was great! LOL After they take you back, they show you how they manage the bugs without pesticide. They take you into the greenhouses and show you how they grow things and why. (I"m trying not to give it away for you;)) Then they take you to the area where the fish and such are. If you'v been on the boat tour, you've seen it all, but the tour explains it in detail. "Why are the pumkins growing side to side?" ,"Why are the zuccini growing up with the fruit hanging down?", etc. We went with another family that had 2 girls. One was in her teens and the other was probably 10 or so. Neither one of them seemed interested and sat along the walls, but they never seemed to take away from the tour. The CM asked them questions, but didn't demand that they be apart of the group. He seemed to know how much he could get out of them and left it at that. I don't think you'll have a problem with the 7year old. You don't stay in one spot for very long. She won't have too much time to get bored with her surroundings.

Thank you so much! Contrary to your name - you do know.
Like you said, the price is right. We're definitely going to go now. We'll take our chances with DD. I know DS will absolutely love it!

We haven't actually done the scheduled tour, but in November as part of Food + Wine festival, they had an open house at the greenhouse one day. We did that and it was wonderful. My DD, 7, loved it. We got to see all the growing areas up close, learn about the different growing methods, see the farmed fish up close, see samples of the various things grown there, etc. No one got bored on the tour. Your DD will be fine.
