Yes and there still is but not in this spot.

There's also a rumour that India would be getting their own pavilion. If that does become an eventuality, then I'd be well excited because I love my curries, and being able to have one in Disney would be excellent!

South America is completely missing. A shame considering how many South American immigrants are in Florida and visit Disney.

There is plenty of room for several new countries. Epcot needs to be more inclusive and shake things up.

That is not the model they follow anymore. They do look for some corporate sponsorship, or funds kick in, but they don't get funding from a country. As I understand it now.

Yes that's my understanding too. IIRC, that's how "Norway" came to be. So, I should have stated that differently.

However, the point is still that Disney isn't going to just go ahead and put a new "country" without a big bucks sponsor.

I suspect that if this were a new pavilion and they're already clearing land, that they would have announced what's coming, not just have a surprise country pop up one day. I'd also guess fireworks/drone storage and staging for the next nighttime shows at Epcot.
