epcot and f&w festival

We are going to disney the last week of sept. Our last night there will be the first day of f&w festival. We had planned to be in epcot that night but now I'm not so sure, since we want to avoid crowds. How crowded is epcot for the first day of the festival? Thanks for any help.

That's a slow time of year to begin with so I wouldn't worry too much about crowds. I would grab a fastpass for a ride like Soarin and then walk around World Showcase sampling the food.

We've never been there at the beginning of F&W, but for years I've read posts that the weekends are very crowded, especially at the beginning ....... Florida folks come on the weekends, which adds to the usually low(er) crowds. If you're not interested in it, why not avoid it. I'm sure others with first-hand experience will post and give you a better idea.

I love the F&W Festival. I wouldn't miss it, IMO. If you want to hit rides, then grab fastpasses. But if you just want to stroll along the WS and have good food and wine, then you can easily manage the crowds. Just grab a bench with a delicious sample of food and a drink of your choice, and people watch. It's very relaxing.

We're hopefully going to epcot one morning to do the rides. That night would be our time to walk around world showcase and watch illuminations. Due to our schedule, the only way to avoid it is to switch it with the day we're doing seaworld but I hate for our last day of vacation to be at seaworld instead of watching the fireworks at epcot. We'll have 3 young kids with us so I hate to get caught up in a massive crowd, so I'm trying to plan ahead. If it's really bad, I will change the schedule around.
