I think it depends on what you have in mind for "touring the countries". I know my kids would be bored to tears with the way my parents always toured- which was spending hours on end in the shops.
But we always focus on "doing" stuff in the countries- seeing the movies, entertainers, riding the rides, and most importantly trying out new foods.
The key is not to spend too long in any place, when they start acting bored, move on to the next country and find something else to do.
The p&f missions are fun, though I personally wouldn't have had the patience to do more than one.

My kids loved the Piggy Bank adventure and the Fire game thingy(can't remember the name).
