I want to do a section in my scrapbook commenorating Epcot's 25th Anniversary. Any ideas for finding an image of old map or pictures of rides/attractions that where there on opening day? I cannot believe Disney has not announced some sort of celebration for the anniversary.

I cannot believe Disney has not announced some sort of celebration for the anniversary.
I was reading an interview with the Vice President of Epcot yesterday in which he specifically said there will be no formal celebration of Epcot's 25th birthday.

I guess they don't want to take the emphasis off their Year of a Million Dreams campaign.

For your pictures, do a Google image search on "EPCOT Center" rather than just Epcot. The original name will bring up some of the earlier references. Here are a few pics I found...

I think it's too bad they didn't plan for a 25th for Epcot, and then maybe do a Year of a Million Dreams. Actually, I think they do too many celebrations now - but the 25th is a big milestone.

Thanks for your help. I see what I can find. In the mean time if anyone has any old photos to share, I would appreaciate it.

Has it really been 25 years already  ! My brother came to visit me at work about 20 minutes ago and was wearing his Epcot t-shirt from the 10th anniversary! Sheesh, I can't believe it has gone by that fast already.

As near as I can tell in the middle is Spaceship Earth with Innovention East and West on each side (called Innoventions back in 1982?). Starting at the left and working the way around to the right in Future World:
3. (triangle like building) ? Universe of Energy maybe
4. Opening in Fall 1983-?
5. (building by Odysey Restaurant)-?
World Show Case- Mexico, China, Germany, USA, Japan, France, UK, Canada (Were there 8 pavillions at opening?)
Journey Into Imagination
The Land

Helping to fill in the blanks:

4: Horizons

5: World of Motion

6: Journey Into Imagination

7: The Land Pavillion (home of Listen to the Land)

8: Can't find a picture labeled as #8, help?

12: Italy

(Italy "resides" between Germany & USA)

Hope this helps! Enjoy the magic!

Dave -- thanks for the incredible pictures! That model looks even more futuristic (in a dated sense) than EPCOT turned out to be. As remarkable as WDW is today, it is even more amazing to remember how grand and unprecedented the whole vision was as it was unfolding at the time.
