EP rope drop is back

What were they doing before today? We’re they just letting everyone in from the gates and not holding you? Wonder why the change?

Right...they opened the turnstiles 45+ mins. before actual rope drop and then just let ppl go wherever they wanted...no more hurry up and wait for the next rope junk.

How does this affect the international gateway entrance?

That article is kinda misleading, at least as of last week. I walked over from YC last Wednesday, arrived to IG at 9:50 or so, and we were NOT held at the IG tapstiles. We were allowed to go as far as the very start of the bridge between UK and France and were held there until 10:15. They lined us up parallel to the merch shop.

Which is/was a much better method all around. They only open a few top tier attractions but at least you aren't clogged at the front entrance and then have to deal with the running of the bulls crowd to the top attractions. It also reduces wait times at the photopass photographers in front of the landmarks and just improves general flow. Sad to see they are reverting to the old ways.

We enjoyed that 2 months ago. Liked it much more than getting part way into the park and then being help in a giant mob until they open the park.
This doesn't sound like fun.

Similar experience in April. We could tap in, but then held at the bridge by the UK. Let in at 10:15.

Hopefully, this was just a one-off event because of construction inside the park or some other reason but time will tell.

This sounds awful. We are normally not rope drop people, I have 3 teens who like to sleep in. But since oldest really wanted to go this year, since she hadn't the last 2 years. I said yes and she's bringing a friend. I told them all, we'd have to tour early, take a break and go back in the evening. But the way KTP sounds, going back to the old way doesn't sound good. Honestly, everyone spends so much on a Disney vacation, we should have some kind of FP to not wait in long lines like he described in the article. We are going 7/20 for a week. This is the first time I'm starting to dread going. I wish they'd just announce the what and when of the new system (if there is one) so we know what we're getting into! :worried:
We went last year in July, same time, but it was empty so no long lines. Didn't need FP. But with capacity probably opening up even more this summer, just doesn't sound fun. Sorry for the rant!

This sounds horrible, why change it now? We have visited a few times during the pandemic and the opening procedure was fine the way it was, why go back to making people wait in a crowd, especially since you already told people they don't have to wear masks or social distance anymore. So at least keep the opening procedure the same to make it gradual. I'm disappointed.

Interesting. I did like the way things were being done on my most recent visit, with opening earlier than posted hour and avoiding rope drop situations, in particular at HS.

Anyone there today, was rope drop the same this morning at Epcot? Has it changed at any of the other parks?
